The surprise reveal that Glass would be a sequel to Unbreakable blew fans away, and gave them something they'd been waiting to see become a reality for years. While the movie was mostly well-received, director M. Night Shyamalan's decision to drown Bruce Willis' David Dunn generated quite a bit of controversy online as many argued that wasn't a fitting ending for the hero.
After being locked in an insane asylum alongside Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) and Split's Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy), a "final battle" ensued which saw a clandestine organisation arrive on the scene, revealing that they've spent decades hiding the existence of superhumans.
They were the ones who killed David, but footage of the battle was leaked online, and that left the door open to a third chapter in this story (dealing with a world where superpowers are real).
Talking to Uproxx recently, Shyamalan weighed in on the controversial death of David Dunn.
"Well, in the end, that the simplest thing can take the strongest person down," the filmmaker said with a laugh. "That it’s like more of Achilles’ heel that, in the mythos of it, you don’t need an army to take down the strongest man if you know their weakness."
Time will tell whether the plan is for us to get a third (fourth if you count Split) instalment of this franchise, but if it does happen, we obviously aren't banking on seeing David make some sort of miraculous return after his demise.
