Has Rhys Ifans Been Cast In Bond 23?

According to he usually-reliable columnist 'Mandrake' in today's edition of The UK Telegraph, Rhys Ifans has joined the cast of Sam Mendes' James Bond flick..

He(Mendes) is clearly taking his mission seriously, as Mandrake hears that he has cast Rhys Ifans, who once enjoyed a passionate cinematic kiss with Craig.

“Ifans will appear in the film, as well as Javier Bardem, who will play the baddie,” says my man with the golden gun. “Much of the filming will take place in South Africa.”

Take it as a rumor until we have confirmation, but this would seem to be legit. As the original article references, Ifans and Craig have acted together before in a strange little movie called Enduring Love. It's worth a watch, and the two certainly have some screen chemistry so seeing em together in a Bond movie could be an awesome prospect.

We will of course see Ifans as Dr Curt Connors/The Lizard in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man early next year. Bond 23 has a release date of October 26th, 2012.

It sounds like this is pannin' out to be a damn good movie. God I can't wait. Let's just hope it isn't a disappointment like Die Another Day or Quantum of Solace.

Overall Mendes is a better Director than Campbell. But as a Bond Director? We'll have to see. I doubt it, because its gonna be hard to top Goldeneye and Casino.

I'm reading Carte Blanche now and I think that would make for a cool Bond movie.

I remember when Rhys Ifans was the embarassing but awesome Welshman from Notting Hill, now he is becoming a movie superstar

hope he is good as the Lizard and has a good potential role in the new Bond movie

Whoa I didn't know Javier Bardem was the bad guy, sweet! Now we have a good hand to hand fight scene perhaps? Not that the one in Quantum of Solace was bad or anything, but that tiny Dominic Greene with the fireaxe beating up an assassin... James Bond? I don't think so lol.

Any new Bond film is a step in the right direction.I'd like to see Spectre brought back in some form, maybe with terrorism connections to give the movie a real world relevance, like Iron Man did.

It's about time Bond visits South Africa - all those game drives, winelands and coastal scenery will look fantastic as a blurry backdrop to Bond's action.
