Movie Web has just posted a new article that claims that an inside source over at EON Productions has a few story details and a major character reveal. According to the source Judi Dench will be replaced by Ralph Fiennes as the new M.

M is the head of the MI6, James Bond's superior. The character was originally played by Bernard Lee for eleven films, then he was followed up by Robert Brown for four films. Then Judi Dench took over in 1995, and Skyfall will be her seventh Bond film.

"Ralph Fiennes play's a government agent, which we never get a name on, because he is set to play the new M.

Skyfall centers around M (Judi Dench) where her past forces her to leave as head of MI6, and find a new M. The board of MI6 then turns to a government agent (Ralph Fiennes) to take over. M (Dame Judi) is now forced to train the new head of MI6."

While this news has yet to be confirmed, it does come from a quite reliable source inside the studio.

Skyfall, Craig's third outing as James Bond will be released on October 26, 2012. Daniel Craig will be joined by Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, as well as a Judi Dench as M.

Damn, I was all hyped up for Blofeld. Oh, well. I shall role with it.

Maybe he'll end up pulling an 'Emperor Palpatine' and be playing both sides of the field? :P

Blofeld would have been AWESOME. But i think i actually like his as M better. This opens the door for Javier Bardem to play Blofeld which he will be better at than Fiennes. No offense to Fiennes, he is a fantastic actor, but I think that Bardem makes a better fit for Blofeld.

Wow, that would be really interesting if this is true.

Judi Dench has been M for so long now, it's going to take some getting use to.

Aww really? That's too bad, Ralph is a phenomenal villain actor and would've been an astounding Blofeld, and Judi Dench is the M I've grown up watching. I love her dynamic with Bond, sort of like a reluctant step-mother or teacher, scorning her disobedient son/student, unlike the other M's, who seemed to basically have the whole boss/employee dynamic with 007.

Would be cool to have Ralph take over in the film then be exposed as a double agent (Blofeld), and have Judi's M return to her role at the end.

Fiennes is too young. Ian McKellan would be better.

Interesting, but I really love Dench as M, so it will take a while if so...but he's great, too.

Would have liked to see him as one of the villains but new M is good role for him too.

Now Bardem can shine all by himself as the main villain.

Or Hugo Strange! He would nail that part perfectly. If someone thinks that Strange cant be menacing threat they havent played Arkham City.

Here's how I think things might pan out in Skyfall... Something from M's(Judi Dench's) past which is perhaps ethically questionable is uncovered and the MI6 angency has to get rid of her. They bring in Ralph Fiennes character to replace her. We all know that M and Bond's relationship is somewhat trying at times, but she ultimately serves as a protective mother type to Bond. But this will probably affect his ability to fully trust her. Ralph's character probably won't put up with Bond's B.S as much as she did and he will probably still serve as somewhat of a protagonist in proventing Bond from completing his mission. M will at some point in the movie redeem herself and return to MI6, thus restoring Bond's faith in her. Ralph's character will likely be fired for some reason, perhaps everything goes to sh#@% under his leadership. Something like that would be my guess.

can't see him as M

casting Ralph Fiennes as M would be like casting Diane Lane as Martha Kent. they're too young for the role. i'd rather see him as the new and improved BLOFELD and HELEN MIRREN replacing Judi Dench as the same M, much like the actors playing James Bond replacing one another in the very same role.

Bernard Lee was always the best M. I can see LoudNoises' scenario panning out but I sincerely hope not. Am tired of Judi Dench already. Was actually hoping Fiennes was going to be another 00 but this is good too. And people, there is no SPECTRE, no Blofeld, no Moneypenny, no stupid gadgets. JUST LET IT GO.

I call bullshit. Fiennes is WAY to perfect for BLOFELD. No way is he Bond's new boss.

Yeah, Fiennes would be perfect for Blofeld. I love Bardem, but he hasn't got quiet that vibe. So, kind of disappointing if true, but Fiennes is always a good addition to a film.

I love Dame Judi Dench. She has been a great asset to the franchise since the Brosnan era. She will be missed, just as Desmond Llewelyn is.

I am excited to Ralph Fiennes take over M. This is another solid choice that is perfect for this evovling version of the James Bond universe.
