Sometimes I dream of a world in which there is no Johnny Depp. I think we could make it into a movie, guys. And we could have Johnny Depp be the star role.

Depp is a good actor ... BUT ...
The fans are making him to look like a an icon, and over hype his movies too much. The sentence "let's go to watch some new Johny Depp movie" lost it's meaning like five years go

Dark Shadows, Pirates 2 &3 (haven't watched the fourth one)
21 Jump Street cameo, Alice in Wonderland, Public Enemies, Parnassus.

Those were really bad (if not medicore,at best) movies.

I think Disney kinda spoil him in a big way.

He's playing for Burton (from time to time), but Burton lost his touch a long time ago.

The Best Movie he's done was "ED WOOD"
He should have like Oscar for that one.

"True" fans know him probably only from POTC franchise, and that's kinda sad and kinda sucks.

@jerryblake

The potc sequels were amazing
21 jump street was an criticly acclamied movie and it was a hit and a great movie
Public enimes was an artistic movie and a great one and criticly acclamied
Alice in wonderland and dark shadows maybe were a medicore movies but the rest of those movies are great

@jerryblake how are they spoil him? He did just the potc movies and alice which was a tim burton movie much more than a disney one

jerryblake - 4/8/2013, 12:08 PM
@Yousef90

they did kinda spoil him when they did that POTC sequels. In the first one, he was creating something new, fresh. He didn't have to do much in the second and the third one. He just was.

Now you are going to Johny Depp movie not thinking of Johny Depp as an actor, but thinking "hey, that's Jack Sparrow over there" :(
He just is. Fans are not demanding to much of him these days.

I was just going to say that Depp looks better as Tonto in this pic.

... Then i realised he still has the dead bird on top of his head. Bummer! -_-

Yousef90 - 4/8/2013, 12:32 PM
@jerryblake he was better in the sequels imo and do you know that he have been nominated for the golden globe for the sec one?

i am a huge fan and i don't think in that way ! when i see johnny in the big screen i think "hey, that the amazing johnny depp playing a part suits him perfectly"

Then you are a huge fan. Not just "a fan", raised only on POTC franchise. My colleagues knew Depp only from POTC movies, never heard of him playing Ed Wood (superb movie), Donnie Brasco, Gilbert Grape, Sir James Matthew Barrie. They maybe heard about his portrayal of Edward Scissorhands, but that's it. And this is kinda sad.

@jerryblake i saw all of his movies even private resort i'm not a fan of him because of potc , i become a fan of him because of his incredible talent and outstanding performances and brilliant movies

His best work imo : edward scissorhands,ed wood,finding neverland,blow,sweeney todd,and ofcourse potc

i think this movie will be on my list of his best

So wait you all are legitimately getting angry with this man because he is a good actor whose name fills movie seats and companies know this? So you are legit being mad because he works alot and people like to see him work? Yeah thats not stupid at all
jerryblake
jerryblake - 4/8/2013, 2:36 PM
@Jatevin

I'm not angry. Read it from the beginning. If i was angry i would be probably spitting the venom from left to right, without giving anybody a chance to say what they want.

Youse90 said his thing. I said mine. It was a pleasant conversation, for both sides i think. No one was bashing anyone.

In fact his opinion kinda made me think how good actor Johny Depp can be.

jerryblake@ Those are only the fans that you know of. Most of my friends are Johnny Depp fans and they know him from various roles aside from Pirates of the Caribbean infact POTC sparked them into looking into Depp's other movies. I know plenty of people who know him from various roles.
jerryblake
jerryblake - 4/8/2013, 2:55 PM
well, my old colleagues haven't watched as many movies as i was watching when i was younger. Things kinda changed lately, I don't watch as many movies too. Deep can be for me hit and miss.
Ed Wood is my favorite. Dig first Pirates. Shit, even some parts of Alice.

Every actor, director is a hit and miss. They just people.
Every movie can be hit and miss.

If you like most of the movies Johny Depp did then you are a true fan.

I'm more a fan of Christian Bale, George Clooney (as a director and as a actor), Nic Cage (but only in dramas), Nesson is growing on me with each movie he makes nowadays.

For each of their own.

21 Jump Street was good. but nothing memorable either.
The hype for this movie was too big.
Sparrowsabre7
Sparrowsabre7 - 4/8/2013, 3:17 PM
I still enjoy Depp's work, but the movies he's in are generally not great. I haven't seen him do much besides "wacky lead character" lately. His role in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" was pretty great. I'm hoping he'll show his serious side a bit more in that Wally Pfister film.
Yousef90
Yousef90 - 4/8/2013, 4:12 PM
@Sparrowsabre7 maybe you mean in the last two years ! But he did the best animated film oscar winner rango! have you seen him in the rum diary 2011? The tourist 2010 ? Public enimes 2009 ? He played normal roles in those movies!

He will be serious in transcendense because the movie is an action-drama-thriller like inception for ex

Does anyone besides me realize how racist this is. Does Disney not realize how many struggling and even starving Native Americans there are in this country that could have been cast as Tonto.
