Deadline reports that Josh Trank will develop and direct a big screen adaptation of Shadow Of The Colossus for Sony Pictures. The film will be produced by Kevin Misher (Public Enemies, Mirror Mirror) and the studio are said to be currently searching for a screenwriter to work with the Chronicle helmer. Trank has reportedly been a fan of the video game since its release in 2005 and actively sought out the job. Here is a description of the plot from the site.

The protagonist is a young man who thinks his lover has died. Desperate to bring her back, he heads into a forbidden land, and summons a demon who can wake the dead. The price for bringing back his girl: slay 16 colossi that dominate this mystical place. These are skyscraper-sized giants that rise from the ground, fly through the air and come from the water. As the young man works through his quest on horseback, he begins to wonder if he is on a noble pursuit to bring back his lover, or perhaps has made a deal with the devil and is being used.

They also confirm that Trank is still working on Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox and Venom for Sony Pictures. He's also attached to the big screen adaptation of comic book Red Star for Warner Bros. When all of these projects will eventually end up being made is unknown at this point, but which would you like to see the director tackle first? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

@thegambitfreak i can see Witwer as Eddie...but casting Elijah as Peter would be kinda awkward seeing as they have Andrew Garfield playing him in the reboot

all for a fantastic four & venom movies by trank.

i would love to see the eddie brock venom, but i think a venom movie would work better with the flash thompson goverment special forces version.

i'd rather the fantastic four back at marvel studios they know how to treat their characters with the respect they deserve.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again - Brock Lensar should be Eddie Brock/Venom. If this happens then woo hoo , if they cast some reject from that 70s show or some other lil p.o.s. then do the other 2 first so maybe Ill be ded before venom comes out, I am NOT going thru another spiderman3 bomb in my life time k

Hell yeah!!! This is really happening... SOTC, was my favourite game on the PS2, alongside the God of War series. With a solid script and an extended prologue to give backstory that follows loosely or in canon with the game's storyline; this could set out to be the best video -game to movie ever!

@IncredibleChuck Thats why I said independant...

@fsucsu & Ha1frican Elijah can play the nerdy, sarcastic witty type while maintaining a serious tone (see Wilfred). And Sam Witwer, I never really saw his work outside of Star Wars Force Unleashed, but the guy can act, he was good in Smallville (The whole 3 episodes I watched of that atrocity)and in 'Being Human' he nails the mysterious, jealous, two-sided type of character. Give Trank that cast and a faithful-to-the-comics plot, and it would rock.

I always liked the 30 year old Peter from the comics, especially since Secret Wars. Enough with the freaking highschool/college BS.

Does anyone actually know how long Fox has to put out a FF movie before the rights revert back to Marvel?
After a Doctor Doom void of any of his interesting backstory, and a Vapour cloud passing as one of the most powerful forces in the universe, I kinda don't trust Fox much.

Love the game, but there isn't much to the story that could translate over to the silver screen very well.
But, if anyone can do it this guy can.

One of the best videogames ever! :D

Does it need to be a movie? Can it even work as a movie? I'd say no, as some people might argue it doesn't even work perfectly as a game.

If they stay faithful to the game and it's atmosphere there would basically be no dialogue at all. Just a lot of riding through a deserted land and slaying giant creatures. Maybe some lizards and fruits.

Yeah, I'd say they can't/won't make a movie out of this without ruining most of what made the game great (at least for me).

Marvel87 -

"How come Sony hasn't officially announced a Venom movie?? I don't think they got that in development anymore."

Probably because Sony is due to go bankrupt before the end of 2012 and is expected to sell off their motion picture division to help save the electronics division.

I have an Xbox and I would buy a PS just to play this... Surely a movie won't do it justice.
