Amazon Prime Video has officially obtained the rights to Tanya Wexler's upcoming action-comedy Jolt, which stars Kate Beckinsale (UnderworldVan Helsing) in the lead role as a character who has something of a rage problem.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Beckinsale further elaborates, "My character, Lindy, is someone who since childhood has had an impulse control problem whereby she has a very difficult time not acting out and behaving badly when under pressure. She is in a weird spot in her life where she is living in an apartment where she's not got any things that she can throw and no knives and forks. She was a bouncer, and got fired, and is just desperate. She finds this experimental therapist who rigs her up with this sort of electrically-shocking vest, which is a sort of turbo equivalent of an elastic band on the wrist, that works with varying degrees of success. As part of her therapy, she goes on a date and really gets on with the guy, and then he's murdered. She's understandably upset and pissed off and tries to figure out what's happened and gets into a lot of scraps!"

In addition to Beckinsale, the star cast features Bobby Cannavale (Ant-ManAnt-Man and the Wasp), Jai Courtney (The Suicide SquadTerminator Genisys), 4x Primetime Emmy-nominee Laverne Cox (Promising Young WomanCharlie's Angels), David Bradley (Harry PotterThe World's End), Ori Pfeffer (Hacksaw RidgeYou Don't Mess with the Zohan), Academy Award-winner Susan Sarandon (A Bad Moms Christmas30 Rock), and Academy Award-nominee Stanley Tucci (Captain America: The First AvengerThe King's Man).

Amazon has also announced that the actioner, which is being described as a female version of the Jason Statham-starrer Crank, will debut exclusively on their streaming service on July 23.

The trailer should be with us shortly, but for now, check out the first look stills below:

Lindy is a beautiful, sardonically-funny woman with a painful secret: Due to a lifelong, rare neurological disorder, she experiences sporadic rage-filled, murderous impulses that can only be stopped when she shocks herself with a special electrode device. Unable to find love and connection in a world that fears her bizarre condition, she finally trusts a man long enough to fall in love, only to find him murdered the next day. Heartbroken and enraged, she embarks on a revenge-filled mission to find his killer, while also being pursued by the police as the crime’s prime suspect.

If that female expendables movie ever happens, they need her and Mila Jovovich, they were the big action chicks of the early 2000’s

I thought she was a great Lois Lane. Even if the Superman Returns story was whack

Based on her turn as Selene in the Underworld films, I consider her the best super-powered action heroine in film history.

She needs to lay off the lip fillers. They are way too puffy. She's naturally beautiful without that.
