Variety has learned that actor/director Kenneth Branagh - who's already set to direct Paramount Pictures' reboot of the Jack Ryan series - is also in negotiations to play the action thriller's villain. If discussions go well, Branagh will play the "Russian villain, who with the help of the local government, masterminds a plot to destroy America’s economy by making the dollar worthless." The title character (played by Star Trek star Chris Pine) "is an ex-Marine who works as a successful financial analyst in Moscow. He discovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy, and must race against time to save America and his wife." Lorenzo di Bonaventura and David Ellison are producing the film, which is inspired by Tom Clancey's bestselling book series.

Branagh was hired by Paramount to direct Jack Ryan shortly after helming Marvel's Thor for the studio; he's also attached to produce the sequel Thor: The Dark World (which will be directed by Alan Taylor).

You don't need bad guys in Russia to destroy the value of the dollar...

Good to hear Branagh is producing Thor 2 though.

My favorite Jack Ryan movie is still Patriot Games. Starring Harrison Ford, Sean Bean, Patrick Bergin, Samuel L. Jackson, James Earl Jones, Anne Archer, Polly Walker and Richard Harris.

I still laugh at Tom Clancy's remark on the comentary for The Sum of All Fears. "Hi, I'm Tom Clancy. The author of the book you ignored."

That director of The Sum of All Fears, Phil Alden Robinson, had egg on his face in a few different ways. It was a horrible attempt at a reboot, and he said that he changed the villains from Islamic terrorists to Neo Nazi ultranationalists because he didn't think the Islamo-terrorists were a genuine threat and cliche. The film was released May of 2002, filmed in late 2000. Remember what happened in between? Whoops.

If they're going to reboot, why not reboot with John Clark not Jack Ryan. Make a good version of "Without Remorse." Now that I would pay to see. Why make a new non Clancy story about Jack, who was never meant to be an action character, that always belonged to John and Ding Chavez in the novels.

@suspensesmith, What is he supposed to look for in the "about" page? If you're referring to this: "In 2008, CBM expanded its coverage to include all SciFi,Fantasy and Horror related properties" then that's irrelevant, this is none of those, it's fiction set within the realm of possibility. And Kenneth Branagh having directed Thor does not forever tie every project he ever does with comic book news now.

Scar, content is whatever the great dread lord, the all powerful eater of accounts and profiles, the high and mighty Galactus says it should be, he and his editors and since this thing made the front page-somebody must approve.

I'm a Jack Ryan/Clancy fan from way back so I'm perfectly cool with the article.

I'm sorry, I thought by making an "about us" page that says explicitly what content the site contains then that's what "all powerful Galactus" actually does think the content should be. But you know what I think? I don't think they give a shit what is on the site, all they don't want is a bunch of rancor. I don't think the site owners actually check the content of the site on a regular basis and instead only make their presence known when a huge shitstorm comes down like it did a couple weeks ago. I don't think they give a crap about the content of the site which is why they leave it to amateurs to do 90% of the actual policing and content creation. The editors do a pretty good job for the most part but they really are left to their own devices and outside of a total and complete screw-up of nuclear proportions can get away with whatever they want.

lol, [frick]ing chill out. How long have you been on CBM to get your tits in such a twist. No one is dying because of a Jack Ryan article that just happens to include info on the director od a CBM and the actor playing the rebooted Captain Kirk. You must admit it has "Geek Appeal."

You sound like one of those people on a home owners association that want to fine people for putting up the "wrong kind" of Christmas Lights.
