Kenneth Branagh In Talks To Play JACK RYAN Villain
He may be directing the Jack Ryan reboot, but Kenneth Branagh (director of Marvel Studios' Thor) is now in talks to star opposite Chris Pine as the primary antagonist in the Paramount Pictures-distributed film. More details after the jump.
Variety has learned that actor/director Kenneth Branagh - who's already set to direct Paramount Pictures' reboot of the Jack Ryan series - is also in negotiations to play the action thriller's villain. If discussions go well, Branagh will play the "Russian villain, who with the help of the local government, masterminds a plot to destroy America’s economy by making the dollar worthless." The title character (played by Star Trek star Chris Pine) "is an ex-Marine who works as a successful financial analyst in Moscow. He discovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy, and must race against time to save America and his wife." Lorenzo di Bonaventura and David Ellison are producing the film, which is inspired by Tom Clancey's bestselling book series.
Branagh was hired by Paramount to direct Jack Ryan shortly after helming Marvel's Thor for the studio; he's also attached to produce the sequel Thor: The Dark World (which will be directed by Alan Taylor).
