Michael B. Jordan In Early Talks To Star In MGM's ROCKY Spin-Off "CREED"

Chronicle's Michael B. Jordan is in negotiations to play Apollo Creed's grandson in a Rocky spin-off movie. Sylvester Stallone will return as Rocky Balboa to train Apollo Creed's grandson into becoming a boxing champion for the next-generation. Yes, this is comic book related. Click the link for details!

Michael B. Jordan has been making headlines lately over rumors of him playing the Human Torch in FOX's planned Fantastic Four reboot. If he does sign on to star in 'Creed,' I think it's safe to assume those rumors could be put to rest. With shooting beginning soon for the Fantastic Four reboot(you can bet casting is underway), if he is actually involved with the movie, it could be hard for him to commit to both movies considering his busy schedule. Meaning he may have to choose one over the other.

I'm a huge fan of the Rocky series! I even like Rocky V, which is considered the worst of the series(I agree with that largely due to the ending fight not being in the ring, but it has its merits). Rocky Balboa's saga has come to a perfect end in the last movie. Going forward with a spin-off makes the most sense, but I'm not sure how I feel about this to be honest. Even though this is pitched as a spin-off movie, it is still considered a continuation of the Rocky saga.

At this point, it seems like they're trying to milk the franchise. I hope this turns out good and obviously I do plan to watch it, but sometimes you have to know when to throw in the towel. It will be great to see Sylvester Stallone back in the role, even if he's not stepping into the ring this time around. Ryan Coogler(Fruitvale Station) is set to direct the project.

Fun bit of comic book trivia here, Sylvester Stallone worked with Hasbro to have Rocky Balboa become a G.I. Joe action figure. This led to Marvel making plans for Rocky to appear in the comics:

The deal ended up falling through due to Sylvester Stallone selling his likeness to another company for Rambo action figures.

How do you feel about another entry in the Rocky franchise? Do you think Michael B. Jordan is a good choice for Apollo Creed's grandson? Sound off in the comments section below.

I like the idea for this film. It might make a compelling story.
Rocky comes full circle from champion boxer to a trainer & coach like old Mickey did or him.

This film would be a better showcase for this Jordan guy,he would get much more screen time.

@SotoJuiceMan Apollo Creed had two kids before he died in Rocky IV. A son and a daughter.

@sameoldthing Huh, I didn't really think about it like that. It would be cool to see Rocky reopen Mickey's gym and coach/train up and coming boxers.

@marvel72 Lol! I knew someone was going to say that.

I think Johnny and Sue should be black! j/k (kinda) No one tripped when they were hispanic and white last time!

Michael B. Jordan deserves his own superhero movie. He should be Static or maybe even a young T'Challa (with someone older being T'Chaka, like Michael Jai White or Idris Elba).

Actually a lot of "nerds" was b*tchin' when Jessica was cast as Sue because of her hispanic background.

Make them both black, or make Sue the adopted one.

I can see him as T'Challa if they ever decide to do a Black Panther film.

@Greg
That sounds fantastic. I'm thinking Coming to America but on a serious/superhero tip. Wakanda could be attacked by another neighboring country or even LATVERIA! That'd be truly epic.

MARVEL! STOP FOCKING AROUND! YOU HAVE ACTUAL BLACK SUPERHEROES, MAKE ACTUAL BLACK SUPERHERO MOVIES!

Heroes for Hire would make a great tv show, too, dicks.

fantastic idea, I have always said this is the best way for the Rocky franchise to go. Give the current generation their "Rocky" but tie it into the original movies. That way, it takes place in the original Rocky universe and is not just a remake of Rocky. Plus they can have Sylvester Stallone be in the "mentor" role.
