Mike Myers Signs For Austin Powers 4

It's been a few years since we last heard about any development on a fourth entry in the Austin Powers franchise, but HitFix is now reporting that Mike Myers has just signed on for the comedy sequel.

In 2008 it was said that Myers was drafting Austin Powers 4 with Michael McCullers, who teamed with the comedy star for all three previous entries. The focus was to be on the character of Dr. Evil rather than Powers himself and would again feature Seth Green as Evil's son, Scott. Whether this element will carry over to the latest iteration of the project remains to be seen.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery was released in 1997 and was followed by two sequels, The Spy Who Shagged Me in 1999 and Goldmember in 2002.

Outside of voicing the title character in DreamWorks' Shrek franchise, Myers has not headlined a feature since 2008's poorly-received The Love Guru.

Considering he's out of Shrek Movies and since The Love Guru was an complete flop, the man just got desperate for work so he's looking to do another film for this dead franchise.

Now let me just say, I LOVE the Austin Powers trilogy. The first movie was a new kind of absolutely hilarious spy spoof, the second one was even better & the third one, even though it became a spoof movie of a spoof movie, was a great ending to the Austin Powers trilogy

BUT saying that, I think this is one of the most [frick]ing idiotic ideas ever. Austin Powers 3 was the franchise starting to get unfunny and a new one WILL be unoriginal & terrible. I hope beyond anything, Mike Myers (who is a genius as three of the best characters ever: Austin, Wayne Campbell & Shrek) will make me eat my words

but I think this is Mike Myers flogging a dead horse because all his other good franchises have been beaten to death and any new movie (i.e. the Love Guru) just seems to prove Mike has lost his mojo when it comes to making funny movies

goddamit it makes me so angry when pointless sequels like this get made but there is still no Incredibles or District 9 sequels being made!
