Christopher McQuarrie In Talks To Write & Possibly Direct MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6
Paramount is inching toward closing a deal with Rogue Nation helmer Chris McQuarrie to write and possibly direct the upcoming sixth installment in Tom Cruise's hit Mission: Impossible series.
With Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation receiving universal critical acclaim and achieving a worldwide gross of nearly $700 million, it should come as no surprise that Paramount Pictures is keen on reuniting the band for Tom Cruise's next impossible mission and well, it sounds like the second domino has fallen.
Variety has learned that the studio is currently working toward closing a deal with director Chris McQuarrie to return to write Mission: Impossible 6 and here's the real kicker, Paramount is also looking at him to potentially helm the next installment, which would mark the first time in franchise history that a director has returned for more than one Mission. The deal is expected to be completed soon as the studio is aiming to kick off production next August.
Variety also adds that Cruise & McQuarrie may not be the only two returning for another go-round as the studio currently holds an option for Rebecca Ferguson (The Girl On The Train) to reprise her Rogue Nation breakout role of Ilsa Faust. Additionally, even though the report doesn't explicitly state it, Jeremy Renner (Captain America: Civil War) should also be back for more as he previously, somewhat famously, signed a three-picture deal to appear as William Brandt prior to Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. As for Simon Pegg (Star Trek Beyond), Ving Rhames (Bastards), and Alec Baldwin (Concussion); considering the conclusion of the last film, it's probably a safe bet the trio will be back in one capacity or another and don't count out either Paula Patton (Warcraft) and/or Maggie Q (The Divergent Series: Allegiant), who were both reportedly asked to return for Rogue Nation, but were unable to because of prior film commitments.
