Tom Cruise is the king of the summer box office yet again as Mission: Impossible - Fallout has soared to a franchise record-breaking launch of $61.5 million domestic and over $156.1 million worldwide!

Chris McQuarrie's critically-acclaimed Mission: Impossible - Fallout has conquered the worldwide box office, debuting with over $155.8 million globally ($61.2M domestic; $94.6M foreign). 

The film's $61.2 million domestic launch is the biggest opening weekend ever for the blockbuster franchise, topping the $57.8 million debut from Mission: Impossible II in May 2000, and its worldwide $155.8 million cume is the biggest opening weekend ever globally for the long-running franchise, topping the $131.5 million global launch from Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in December 2011. The film is also now the second-largest opening in Tom Cruise's storied career, falling just short of War of the Worlds ($64.8M).

Thanks to the strong reception from both critics and fans alike, Fallout is expected to have some of the longest legs of the summer and should continue to exceed expectations at the box office through August and September until, at least, the arrivals of 20th Century Fox's The Predator on September 14 and Sony's Venom on October 5. It also opens in China on August 31, which should be another massive boost to its worldwide total considering Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation brought in over $135.6 million in the Middle Kingdom back in 2015.

The Cruise-starrer is currently boasting an outstanding 97% Certified Fresh rating on popular review aggregator RottenTomatoes and has also earned an "A" CinemaScore, which is a first for the franchise. 

As for the rest of the box office Top 10, Universal's Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Sony's The Equalizer 2 finished second and third, respectively, with $15.1 million ($167.9M worldwide total) and $14 million ($70.3M worldwide total) in their second weekends while Sony's Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation finished fourth with $12.2 million ($285M worldwide total). 

Warner Bros.' Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, the only other major newcomer this week, underperformed in its debut, managing to earn just over $10.4 million in the United States. Its worldwide total stands at $11.5 million.

Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp dipped to sixth in its fourth frame with $8.7 million. The Peyton Reed-directed film has earned over $395.7 million worldwide and will open in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Poland next weekend. Its also been set to open in China on August 24 and Japan on August 31.

Disney/Pixar's Incredibles 2 finished seventh with $7.2 million domestic and is on the cusp of topping $1 billion worldwide. Its current global sum is $999,259,730. Once it tops $1 billion, it will be the third Disney film this year to reach that milestone figure, joining Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War ($2,044.6B) and Marvel's Black Panther ($1,346.6B).

Universal's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom finished eighth with $6.7 million, bringing its domestic cume to $397.5 million and its total worldwide haul to $1,237.7 billion. Meanwhile, Universal's Skyscraper continued its downward spiral in the States and plummeted to ninth with $5.3 million. While it's unquestionably a domestic flop, the Dwayne Johnson-led feature has performed admirably overseas, bringing in over $255.9 million worldwide. Universal's The First Purge rounds out the Top 10 with $2.2 million and its worldwide total stands at $111 million.

What an amazing, incredible, fantastic movie. 10/10, just outstanding and superb. Everyone was top notch. Tom Cruise was fantastic with his craziest, most impressive stunts yet. Ilsa, Benji, Luther were all fantastic and worked well off each other. And Cavill's Walker was a terrific villain. He and Sean Harris' Solomon Lane will go down as perhaps the two top villains of this franchise. The action, the fights, it was all outstanding. A true thrill ride. For me, the 2nd best film of the year.




Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, and Fallout. Wow.






We now have what I would call the GREATEST ACTION FILM TRILOGY EVER (unless I'm blanking on a better trilogy).

@HeavyMetal4Life - The only other great action movie trilogy I can think of are the first 3 Bourne movies.

Hopefully John Wick 3 turns out well so we can add another to the ranks.

If you haven't seen them before: No spoilers

1- a good movie but a little hard to follow first time around. You have to really pay attention
2- really stupid but kind of fun
3- a solid action flick with not much in the way of story but a good villain
4- A great action movie with well thought out action set pieces
5- another great action movie
6- Fantastic movie with Tom Cruise going all out on the stunts

@MrDandy - pretty much agree, though I really don't like the 2nd film.

Was watching an interview earlier with the crew of Fallout. McQuarrie said Tom told him that Ghost Protocol is when the franchise really figured out what it was meant to be.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Oh, yeah. The 2nd one is trash, but kind of trashy fun if you're in the right mood.

I'd actually say it was MI 3 that kind of figured out the tone and what it wanted to do, but it was Ghost Protocol that perfected the formula.

@MUTO123 - MI6 is on the same level as MI2. Not sure what alli rhe hope is about. Ghost protocol and rogue nation are wayyyyyyyy better. The action was ok, but the story and certain plot elements were just stupid.

I can't watch this, which sucks. I'm waiting to buy all the previous films on 4K so I can immerse myself in the whole experience. And then there's the whole ordeal with my movie watching buddy, she hates scientology, so it's going to be difficult trying to convince her to watch. Odd how the Mission impossible movies are now more relevant than 007. Life is funny that way.

@ScarletWarlock - More relevant how? I like them both but they're very different and the last Bond film made 900M and the one before that over a billion. I'd say Bond is still the spy king all things considered.
