Happy Birthday Tom Cruise!

With the first screenings of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One happening in exactly a week, Paramount is celebrating its most iconic star's 61st birthday by releasing an epic supercut of all of his most badass runs from the Mission: Impossible movies.

We first met IMF ace Ethan Hunt (Cruise) in Brian De Palma's Mission: Impossible in 1996, and have joined him on each of his adventures through John Woo's highly-stylized Mission: Impossible II in 2000, J. J. Abrams' deeply personal Mission: Impossible III in 2006, Brad Bird's high-flying Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in 2011, and then, of course, Christopher McQuarrie's back-to-back masterstrokes Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation in 2015 and Mission: Impossible - Fallout in 2018.

Now, it's time for the first half of his biggest and darkest Mission yet, Dead Reckoning Part One, which will pit Hunt against the most devastating villain the world has ever faced. The stakes are at an all-time and it's up to Ethan Hunt and allies, new and old, to find a way to save the day before it's too late... or allow an extinction-level threat to run amok on the human race.

In addition to Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt), the cast features Hayley Atwell (Grace), Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell), Simon Pegg (Benji Dunn), Rebecca Ferguson (Ilsa Faust), Vanessa Kirby (Alanna Mitsopolis/White Widow), Esai Morales (Gabriel), Pom Klementieff (Paris), Mariela Garriga (Marie), Henry Czerny (Eugene Kittridge), Shea Whigham (Jasper Briggs), Greg Tarzan Davis (Degas), Charles Parnell, Frederick Schmidt (Zola Mitsopolis), Cary Elwes (Denlinger), Mark Gatiss, Indira Varma, and Rob Delaney.

Check out the new "Tom Cruise Running In Mission: Impossible Since 1996" supercut below:

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan's past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One lights the fuse in theaters on July 12, 2023; with the follow-up, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, set to arrive the following year on June 28, 2024.

One of the most iconic runs in the biz.

No wonder he praised The Flash.

Jokes aside, the dude's one of the few legit ones in his craft. Like him or not, he gives it his all. So yeah, Happy b-day, Mr Cruise.

@DrReedRichards - Regardless of the weird cult he’s in, Cruise is the one of last great movie stars. Dude has such an impressive catalog. And these MI movies are an important part of that.

EZBeast - 7/3/2023, 11:34 PM
@DrReedRichards - probably the last true movie star people would go to a theater for just to see on the big screen.

@mountainman - perhaps his Cult is why he is the last movie star.

@mountainman -

Yeah, his Scientology church is what the "like him or not part of my comment was in reference to. Just can't back someone like that.

@DrReedRichards - I’ve enjoyed so many of his films that I can look past it. The Mummy and Knight and Day may be his only movies in his career that I disliked.

I was tempted to share the Family Guy clip on why Tom Cruise runs but o I like him too much. Happy Birthday to him and can't wait for MI!

I hope we do get more of a return to seeing movies using practical effects and actual locations, it really makes it feel more like an experience when watching these films.

I always wondered if he runs so vigorously hard for the dramatic effect or because his legs are short

@GhostDog - I think it's for dramatic effect. Especially how he moves his arms with it makes it look way more intense too

I have an epic cut. I was told it decreases sensitivity, but that just means I can last longer.

Rewatched Vanilla Sky last night. Underrated movie

@tmp3 -

Rewatched MI2 recently. Such a cheesy guilty pleasure, I honestly cannot hate it.

@DrReedRichards - It’s the only MI movie I dislike, but I appreciate it more today than I did in the past.

It is a product of its era and of John Woo.

When I watch it I just have to go in expecting the bad stuff and it’s somewhat enjoyable enough.

@tmp3 - I really love that whole sequence at Life Extension for the finale of the film.

Off topic: For the two of you that are actually excited about Gambit.

@Feralwookiee - haha, who's the other guy? jokes aside if true I like it. He's a fan of the character and wanted the role glad he might get it for at least a day without actually being the MCU gambit. And we get to see if he can actually pull off the voice (not so sure about that haha). And at this rate it won't surprise me if we drop in on Dougray scott as wolverine in a universe somewhere

Feralwookiee - 7/4/2023, 9:29 AM
@B89 - You and Charlie Hunnam. 🤣

I'm not a big fan of Gambit or Bishop or any of the 90's X-Men characters for the most part personally.

B89 - 7/4/2023, 8:41 PM
@Feralwookiee - haha, fair enough each to their own. I watched the animated X-Men show when I was young so have a soft spot for most of the members of that team.

Funny/sad how the most successful movie of the year about a guy who runs won't be The Flash.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 7/4/2023, 2:28 AM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - no matter the quality of a Flash movie, it would never beat Mission Impossible for me. I know the running in any Flash movie has to be CGI, but with Cruise I know I can expect epic practical stuff
