The trailer for Midnight Special has just been released and it tells the compelling tale of a father trying to protect his son, all the while trying to find answers. The film stars Michael Shannon as Roy, a father who is on the run and doing whatever it takes to protect his son, Alton (Jaden Lieberher), who is gifted with special abilities. This looks to be an emotional and intense film, which focuses on the aspect of a father and son relationship instead of just a boy with superpowers.

Written and directed by Jeff Nichols (Mud), and also featuring a supporting cast of incredibly talented actors such as Joel Edgerton, Adam Driver, Kirsten Dunst, and Sam Shepard. After watching that trailer,
Midnight Special hits theaters on March 18, 2016.

In the sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special,” writer/director Jeff Nichols proves again that he is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time, as a father (Michael Shannon), goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), and uncover the truth behind the boy’s special powers.

What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government. Ultimately his father risks everything to protect Alton and help fulfill a destiny that could change the world forever, in this genre–defying film as supernatural as it is intimately human.

Now that you've seen the trailer, take a look at the film's poster. Can you spot anything special about it?

Should be worth a look. Mud and Take Shelter were very interesting and precisely told stories.

This kid would kick Superman's ass haha. This looks pretty good. Jeff Nichols did Take Shelter and that was so underrated. Amazing film. This has a cliche story, but I expect Nichols to do something special with it

^ Haha, "This was providence"

It's crazy, this is the premise of what could have happened if Kent's powers were revealed to the world in MOS. I wonder if that was part of the inspiration

Alright, thank you for letting me know, I don't want to watch it just yet, too close to the release for compromise now, but it is good to know it is awesome, the Daredevil is a really hard one to beat, though, I wonder if it is equally good if not better.

I still wish that rumor about Nichols directing Aquaman had turned out to be true. I don't mind James Wan, but he's very hit or miss, and now, with the news that the dude who wrote Wrath of the Titans is working on the screenplay, that does not inspire confidence. I still don't know how Furious 7 got the reception it did. The Paul Walker tribute was nice, but the rest of that movie was nuts. Statham was pretty much playing Carrie Fisher in The Blues Brothers throughout the whole thing.

I loved Mud, though, and I was so happy to find out that Take Shelter was streaming on Starz Play when I went to watch Ash vs. Evil Dead, as I've been wanting to see it for a long time. This looks fantastic, as well, and I can't wait to see it.
