The last we heard of Suicide Squad director David Ayer was the intriguing news that his fantasy crime film Bright is receiving a sequel from Netflix. The film was panned by critics, but created waves throughout the streaming community, breaking viewership records.

Deadline reports that the divisive director will be returning to his roots, partnering up with underrated performer Shia LaBeouf to star in his next project. Likened to Training Day and End of Watch, the thriller will be titled Tax Collector.

Ayer has been hit or miss as of late, with his attempts to succeed in blockbuster entertainment being mixed at best. It is with his dramas and lower budget features in which he excels the most. On the other hand, Shia LaBeouf as found great success starring in very under the radar independent films, and which his the latest performances have been critically applauded. Hopefully this film will give him the spotlight he deserves as a talent, after years of avoiding it

I'm that one guy you get annoyed with because he talks about movies too much, but I'm also the one guy you love to talk movies with.

I feel people give way too much credit to David Ayer for Training Day. Yes, he wrote it, but I think Antoine Fuqua’s direction really made the movie. It would never been as good if Ayer directed it.

Fury was alright because the cast was great. Suicide Squad was terrible even the cast was great. Bright was god awful! Ayer is just a terrible director.

SS was a mess and Ayer deserves a lot of criticisms, imo. However, he is a very good director and i'll always buy a ticket to see his films. He made the best (imo) cop film in End of Watch and other great movies.

Also, I know Shia seems to be an asshole and has his issues outside of his acting, but he is a very good one...hopefully he gets it together for good.

Shia was great in American Honey and he played a great John McEnroe lol and there's also this on the way:

He might be obscure and wacky but I think he's found his niche!
