Gareth Evans directed one of the segments in V/H/S 2 which is why he was at last night's screening of the film at Frightfest, but he surprised audience members by bringing a clip from The Raid 2: Berandal. The clipped featured the aptly named Hammer Girl according to Twitch.

The clip we saw is from an action scene on a moving subway car: Hammer Girl against a bunch of guys in suits. The clip was only a few minutes long, but it was enough to see that not only have Evans and his crew maintained the freshness and brilliance of the first film, finding new and inventive ways to present action and martial arts, but they've gone above and beyond by exploring new spaces and (obviously) new characters.

Evans confirmed that the sequel picks up a mere two hours after the end of the first film but will span a total of four years. Based on this report, if you were surprised and thrilled by The Raid, expect more of the same in The Raid 2: Berandal.

@SamM

You'll love it! The action is great! Sometimes it can be a little over the top but it puts a modern gloss on those old martial arts flicks we all probably grew up on! :D Check it out!

He stole his first script from Dredd. Maybe this one will be more original since Dredd 2 script has yet to be written.

Dredd was infinitely better than The Raid. Raid was good for a silly martial arts film.

The raid is one of those rare films that makes you say things out loud due to pure excited awesomeness. I think I said "OH SHIT" to pretty much every kick punch ect that was displayed.

According to Fact Check and other sources, the script for Dredd was written in 2008. The script was leaked online in2010. The Raid script was completely different up until the summer of 2010 when it changed to the Dredd inspired ( stolen ) script. Dredd production was much longer than low budget Raid production thus its earlier release. Hate to troll but facts are facts and I fgiggin loved Dredd.

gaikinger - 8/25/2013, 12:47 PM
Gnyah123 I don't get the connection between comparing The Raid to CBM Batman franchise as they are totally different genres. Dredd of course was the best action film of 2012 and best CBM ever. Why is Raid even discussed on CBM?

Just an FYI, there is a Raid Redemption comic released prior to the film and if people are going to get technical, both films ripped off Bruce Lee's Game of Death. ;-)

Actually there are some martial arts movie out there.

Recently watched S P L with Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung, very boring but what little action it had was great.

Can you guys stop [frick]ing comparing the Raid to Dredd, both film-makers even said that this was a happy coincedence and didn't even know the plot of the other. they were made at the exact same time. Dredd was just pushed back a few times. hell even compare those two to Die Hard cuz its the same thing too. this happens all the time ex
