Tom Cruise Exits MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E; WB Recasting

According to Deadline, Tom Cruise has jumped ship from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and will no longer be playing the lead role in the Guy Ritchie directed movie. Apparently the actor stepped away from the picture to focus on producing and starring in Mission: Impossible 5, which Paramount and Skydance are now planning to begin shooting before year’s end. Cruise would have starred alongside Armie Hammer, and WB will now search for a replacement partner for the Lone Ranger star. The original TV series ran from 1964-68, and starred Robert Vaughan and David McCallum as agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement, Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin as they battled the evil forces of "Thrush" (sounds nasty).

Seeing the height difference between Hammer and Cruise would have been a little jarring.

Clearly he was afraid how ridiculously tiny he would look onscreen with Armie Hammer. Shoe lifts and camera angles can only do so much :)

Wasn't Clooney going to do this at one point? I think he'd work with with Hammer on screen.

Could anyone see Cruise working with Guy Richie? I just don't buy the scheduling conflict story.

I heard that Cruise left because Bryan Singer is casting him as the Scarlet Witch in DOFP. "BEFORE she was an Avenger, she was just [frick]ed in the head!"
