Deadline is reporting that Robert Knepper (Prison Break) has joined the cast of Paramount Pictures' upcoming Ed Zwick-directed action sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. He'll play General Harkness, a retired general-turned-CEO of a private military firm, and he's being described as "a man of power, experience and authority who thinks he's the hero and is not afraid to do what's necessary." Based on that brief description, it sounds like his character will be one of a villainous nature.

Knepper joins a cast headlined by global superstar Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation) with Cobie Smulders (Avengers: Age Of Ultron), Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta Compton), Danika Yarosh (Heroes Reborn), Patrick Heusinger (Black Swan), Austin Hebert (The Answer), Holt McCallany (Concussion) and Robert Catrini (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) co-starring. The aforementioned Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai; Blood Diamond; Pawn Sacrifice) is directing with a script he co-wrote alongside Richard Wenk (The Equalizer) & Marshall Herskovitz (The Last Samurai).

In addition to his starring role on Fox's hit drama Prison Break, Knepper has recently guest-starred on a number of the CW's DC TV shows, appearing as William Tockman a.k.a. the Clock King on both The FlashArrow and also appearing on two episodes of the horror hit iZombie. As for his movie roles, he's had roles in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 & Part 2, Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters, R.I.P.D., The Day The Earth Stood Still, and Transporter 3.

So, what do you guys think of Knepper joining the cast? Sound off with your thoughts below and also check out a few recent set photos of Cruise & Smulders:

The new film, a sequel to 2012’s “JACK REACHER,” is based on author Lee Child’s 18th book in the bestselling Jack Reacher series, Never Go Back. The film is written by Richard Wenk (“THE EXPENDABLES 2,” “THE EQUALIZER”), Marshall Herskovitz (“LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS,” “THE LAST SAMURAI”) & Zwick.

Cruise is producing alongside Don Granger (“MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION,” “JACK REACHER”), Skydance Media’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg (“MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION,” “ EOSTORM”), and Christopher McQuarrie (“MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION,” “ ALKYRIE”). The executive producers are Paula Wagner (“WAR OF THE WORLDS,” “THE OTHERS”) and Herb Gains (“THE JUDGE,” “NON-STOP”).

I liked the first one; Jai Courtney was actually really good in it. And it had a proper car chase. Hope this one has another good car chase scene.

After 4th season when PB just died it would be reasonable to let this series stay dead.
Good to see TBag again on a big screen though. Last time i saw him was in The Day the Earth Stood Stil and he was playing also military guy (colonel). Is he gonna go against Tom ?

Robert Knepper! I love this guy, he's definitely an actor that should be getting more recognition than he has.

Wow you mention him appearing in Percy Jackson and Transporter 3, but neglect to mention his role in Heroes? Is the show THAT bad in the eyes of the general public??

Anyways, he'll make a badass villain for sure.

I don't like tiny Jack Reacher.

Jack Reacher is a 6'4" ex-military police officer. That's kind of integral to his character.

The last film is so underrated, hopefully more people watch this one and like it. The first was great in my honest opinion.

It's good to see unknown actors like Tom Cruise getting a break for a change!
