As we count down the days to summer, Netflix has released the official trailer for The Gray Man, the highly anticipated action-thriller that hails from The Russo Brothers (Avengers: Infinity WarAvengers: Endgame). This first footage showcases an extended look at the showdown of the summer as Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049Drive) takes on Chris Evans (Captain America; Avengers: Endgame).

The film, which is an adaptation of Mark Greaney's 2009 novel of the same name, follows Court Gentry, a.k.a. Sierra Six (Gosling), a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death, who suddenly finds himself hunted across the globe by former co-worker Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), who will stop at nothing to take him out.

In addition to Gosling and Evans, the supporting cast features Golden Globe-nominee Ana de Armas (Knives OutNo Time to Die), Jessica Henwick (The Matrix ResurrectionsIron Fist), Wagner Moura (NarcosSergio), Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time in HollywoodAmerican Housewife), South Indian superstar Dhanush (RaanjhanaaVada Chennai), Regé-Jean Page (BridgertonDungeons & Dragons), Academy Award-nominee Alfre Woodard (Luke CageCaptain America: Civil War), and Academy Award-winner Billy Bob Thornton (Monster's BallFargo).

The Gray Man hits theaters on July 15, and will start streaming exclusively on Netflix on July 22

THE GRAY MAN is CIA operative Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), aka, Sierra Six. Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) has his back. He’ll need it.

Love Gosling but this looks... cheap? Not great to release the trailer the same week as the MI 7 trailer either lol

Evans as the villain looks like a lot of fun.

damn that looks good kinda like TWS up to 150%, Ryan having a bit of a Captain America moment there lol and Chris looks up to be fun as a villain, he did a great job on Knives Out imo. Looking forward to it.

Generic: The Movie. Netflix’s favourite genre

@Cap1 - Netflix’s actual favorite genre

@GhostDog - with shows like Breaking Bad and Community I'm not really tempted to look at my phone.

But yeah, there's a lot of stuff you can just put on in the background

Aside from the cast, this definitely feels like a Netflix movie for the most part. There is some cool stuff in there too, but it is mostly because of the cast I'll give it a chance.

And that 'stache definitely makes him look like a Lloyd (I apologize to the Lloyds on this site if I offended them)

Evans seems to be having lots of fun and Gosling is doing his thing, movie looks fun. I can accept cheap effects if the acting and story are good, I'm an enjoyer of cult and b- movies, but I'll add that scene on the bus crashing through the building looks awful.
It particularly stands out with the MI trailer so fresh in my mind.

@1stDalek - I’m a huge action movie fan and self professed connoisseur lol and I think this is operating in a weird 90s throwback, semi over the top space. It has a Hong Kong action movie feel to it almost and those can sometimes look cheap but they’re fun.

I think this movie knows what it is. You can tell by the fun the actors are having. I wouldn’t put it anywhere near MI since I think those films are in a class all on their own (and they should’ve released the trailer later so as to not have MI on everyone’s mind) but this feels like a Transporter or SALT.

@GhostDog - I do expect it to be a fun movie, and a well made action movie can overcome some scenes with bad effects (CGI or practical).
But for the $200M budget I do expect it to compare favorably with the best money can buy like the MI films, not with ambitious & scrappy Honk Kong action movies.

@1stDalek - I think that’s where the Netflix aspect unfortunately hurts it.

Only they could make a $200M film look cheap.

I liked the trailer, it could really be the Russo Brothers' most solid action movie.

This looks a little generic, not going to lie. I fear that everything that people found interesting about the Russos as directors came from what was pre-established by the MCU.

I'm still looking forward to it but hoping it's good.

@Kumkani - It might be generic, but as someone who loves these types of movies when they are done well, I am hyped- Mainly due to the cast and the trailer was great despite some questionable CGI.

Looks like it could be fun. Netflix has done some good work with their indie films, but their blockbusters have always come off as generic and lacking. Here’s hoping this is solid.
