A Look Under The (Red) Hood

A Look Under The (Red) Hood

The Under the Red Hood feature from Crisis on Two Earths is sure to leave you wanting more!

If you're like me you've been loving the absolute wealth of images coming out from Bruce Timm and company involving their newest feature Batman: Under the Red Hood. What we've seen so far has been nothing short of breath taking; we've seen conformation of both a young and teen aged Jason Todd, confirmation that his brutal death will be seen on screen, and we've seen quite possibly one of the greatest voice casts ever assembled for a DCAU movie.

But with the release of Crisis on Two Earths we get so much more than that, instead of just short glimpses of this movie in a static environment we finally get to see it come together a little bit. The bonus feature included with COTE isn't a trailer for BURH like I had originally hoped, but the in depth interviews from the creators and the voice actors was so much better. Where a trailer would have only given us some broad strokes of the story and some good action beats, the interview really took us under the hood of the movie, it exposed how the melding of Death in the Family and Under the Hood came to be and gave us a look inside what goes into making a movie.

With all this build up of tension, I hope it delivers.

A big thanks to cbr users nicolereis and benicio127 for finding the videos.

That's what i have to say to fisters.

In other news, I can't find the words to fully explain how awesome this movie is going to be. I can't remember ever anticipating another animated feature as much as I am for this one.

Oh, and I like red in captions in the title, thanks to which ever editor did that!

i just watch crisis on two earths and love it, but hated william baldwin voice, kevin conroy its batman voice and no one else.
and about under the red hood i will quote neil patrick harris "it's gonna be legen-(wait for it)-dary".

The part where they showed NPH as night wing was awesome, i have a feeling he's going to make this movie.

Ok I am so psyched for this movie except... now that I have listened to some of the voice acting I don't like Greenwood as Batman but I am biased because of Conroy. That line about smashing the car, I felt no intimidation but if Conroy had said it Dear God... also as much as I like Ackles... not digging him as Red Hood he seems like his voice is too deep... but NPH was an awesome Nightwing!!! We'll see with the final product, but looks good so far.

I too love Conroy, but I also really liked Greenwood IGirl. I liked the smokey sound to his voice. While he might not be better than Conroy, he certainly seemed a hell of a lot better than any of the other voice actors we've seem do batman so far.

Bruce Greenwood voice really surprise me, of how good his Batman voice is going to be, but John DiMaggio the guy who's voicing the Joker really really surprise me with his laugh, and his Joker voice. I was worried about John Dimaggo voicing the Joker but after watching the feature It gets me more excited for this movie. I'm getting confuse wither or not Tim Drake will be in this movie because we see three diffrent Robin designs. If you look closely at the 13 and 16 year old Robin design you can notice the short sleeves on both of them, and then we see a Robin in Tim's Red and Black suit. Batman: Under the Hood is going to challenge Batman: MotP as best Comic Book animated movie. Honestly I believe this dvd animated movie is going to increase Jason Todd's popularity as a DCU Character, other writers will ignore what Grant Morrison and Tony Daniel did to the character in their stories, after seeing this. Jensen Ackles is going to do a great job as JT/ Red Hood and so will NPH as DG/Nightwing.

I agree with you drknight92 about William Baldwin voicing Batman I hated his voice for the character. Batman voice is supose to be deep, not a whisper voice. I still like the movie, but the reason they didn't go with Kevin Conroy's voice as Batman or anyone from the JLU animated series is because they didn't want the movie to tie into the tv show even though to me it felt like I was watching a loss episode from the show.
from the show.

@thwht I can definately agree that he is the best we've had (besides Conroy) At least he isn't Billy Baldwin... And he's not bad but he doesn't have the intimidation like Conroy has, and that disappoints me but I'll have to wait for the finishing product to make a real critique.
@TDKR Tim wasn't Robin during this storyline he was living with his Real Father and "retired" temporarily at his Father's request.

yeah, baldwin really disappointed me, as I used to think he would have made a decent live action batman. But if he can't handle the voice in a cartoon, he certainly isn't fit to actually wear the cowl.

InstigatorGIRL - 2/23/2010, 9:10 PM
NO BALDWIN is fit to wear the cowl...

lol nope. Well, if they did a revamp of the adam west batman show Alec Baldwin might be funny as he is as out of shape as West was.

I was excited before but after watching this I can barely contain myself! The voice talent is working for me. I am glad they are finally using the Nightwing costume from the comics. I just wonder how they are going to explain Jason's resurrection and the ending in the books. And I am glad they have Neil playing Nightwing. Dick Grayson has always been one of my favorite characters and Neil's voice suits him.
TDKR11

Actually Tim Drake was around as Robin. This storyline takes place some time after the War Games storyline and JT/Red Hood fought Drake in a Teen Titans issue while Winick was still telling his Under the Hood storyline at the same time.
ironknight27
ironknight27 - 2/23/2010, 9:45 PM
Yeah TDKR11 is right it took place between War Games and War Crimes. If I remember correcty Tim had left operating in Gotham after the events of War Games and took up shop in Bludhaven for a time with Batgirl. Damn I am a nerd. That fight between Tim and Jason was very good.

I'm really excited for this! Neil Patrick Harris already seems like he's going to be entertaining as Nightwing. Ackles looks to be pretty good too. Seems like a really great story.

Tim is not involved in the storyline he was gone in Bludhaven.

My bet is, that since they cast a relatively big name(Jason Isaacs) as Ra's that Todd's resurrection will be explained to be part of Ra's plan to get back at batman or something.

Damn I can't wait.

You know I LOVE NPH, he's one of my favorite actors, but i can't see him as a Nightwing, his voice that is. I think it's too high/young. Nightwing was suppose to be a more lighthearted character but i don't think I can take him seriously at all with NPH's voice.

InstigatorGIRL - 2/24/2010, 12:33 AM
@ironknight yeah you're right because I just pulled out a Teen Titan comic with Red Hood attacking Tim. Man I need to read up on that series again. I am mixing shit up... (hangs head in shame...)

This looks very good. I was hesitant about Bruce Greenwood and Jason Ackles in this film but they look and sound very good, they can pull this one off nicely.

Just watched Crisis last night.

I dug it quite a bit. Of course Baldwin should be pushed in front of a train for his
laughable attempt at a Batman voice, but other than that it was very good.

I really liked James Woods' Owlman.

Can't wait for Red Hood.

InstigatorGirl- Keep your chin up kid! I mix stuff up all the time. To be honest so much went on during that period in the bat family between Dick allowing Blockbuster to be shot, War Games, Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis, so much shit went down that even I would mix stuff up from time to time. Please be gentle if I mix something up in the future. On second thought, you can be rough! j/k
