With anticipation rising with the release of DCAU's newest animated feature, "Crisis on Two Earths" just weeks a way it would seem that all our desires were about to be quenched. However it seems that is far from the truth. Released today, right here, is information that is sure to have us waiting with baited breath for another half a year or more. A few months back DC released the contents of the Crisis DVD, and among the many usual and expected bonuses there was one title that got every one talking: Batman: Under the Red Hood.

With that small phrase speculation spread through out the various comic sites and message boards of the internet like wild fire. Would DC's next animated installment be about the origins of the original Red Hood, the Joker? Or was DC ballsy enough to do the return of the wayward Robin; the hitherto never before mentioned in the animated universe Jason Todd? And if it was Todd would they feature his death as well?

The answer is this: the next DCAU feature will indeed be, as the title suggests, based on the 2005 Batman story "Under the Hood" which featured the resurrection of Jason Todd. For the uninitiated "Under the Hood" deals with the return of the second Robin, Jason Todd, who died at the hands of the Joker...by popular vote from comic readers every where. Jason returns to life and dons the title Red Hood and leaves a wake of dead bodies in behind him in his quest for vengeance against anyone who lead to his death. This naturally brings him into conflict with his former partner and mentor Bruce Wayne/Batman, who struggles to solve the mystery of Red Hoods killings.

Animated guru Bruce Timm executive produces this violent look into crime on the streets Gotham, and it's directed by "Superman Doomsday" co-director Brandon Vietti, with a cavalcade of stars as voice talent. Starring Bruce Greenwood ("Star Trek") as Batman, "Supernatural" star Jensen Ackles as Red Hood, Neil Patrick Harris ("How I Met Your Mother") as Nightwing, John DiMaggio ("Futurama") as the Joker and Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potter films) as Ra's Al Ghul this movie is sure to please.

It's not known when this feature will be released, but I guarantee you that as soon as that information is made available it'll be on all of our calenders!

Sorry,I just Couldn't help myself with the title and teaser. Ahem.

Awesome Cast, except im not sure about John Dimaggio doing the Joker. In my opinion there is only one living guy that can do the true JOker voice and thats Mark Hamill

OMG!! I LOVED the Red Hood series I got every single issue! Jensen Ackles is going to be Red Hood Kick [frick]ing ass! But FAIL on no Conry or Hamill... Seriously why don't they just keep them signed on as Batman and Joker for everything?? Also I'm intrigued by the casting of Jason Isaacs. Can't Wait! GREAT FIND thwhtGuardian!

Man they have to show at least a glimpse of Joker killing Jason Todd because many viewers of TAS know Dick and Tim but they never did Jason because Fox and WB said that it was too dark for their young viewers. So I at least hope they will show a little bit of Todd as Robin and then his death.

Well, holy-[frick]in'-shit! A Batman direct-to-video? These are so rare! After all Batman has been in every goddamn direct-to-video that's come out. Minus Green Lantern and Wonder Woman and the fact he didn't pop his [frick]in' Bat-noodle on screen at least once during those two is startling.

Hey, "Batman Begins" was awesome and "The Dark Knight" was even better, so quick let's ditch "The Batman" TV show and put out "Batman: The Brave and The Bold" and while everyone is watching that let's capitalize more between thinking about Superman by doing "Batman: Gotham Knight" with six different Batman stories, "Justice League: New Frontier" with Batman swinging around, "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" that way we can nail two birds with one stone. And while we all wait for "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths" with Batman featured in it, we'll start another Batman tale "Batman: Under The Red Hood" because deviating from Batman with "Green Lantern: First Flight" and "Wonder Woman" was wasted time not whoring out Batman and its time they need to catch up on.

Seriously, since 2008 I've been [frick]in' bombarded with Batman, it's coming out of my ass. Really, you know who should have their turn at the plate with a direct-to-video? Wally-[frick]in'-West, that's who. Or even Barry-goddamn-Allen. Even The Specter gets to shine! The Specter!

Park Batman back in the garage for five [frick]in' minutes and let someone who needs to be showcased be [frick]in' showcased. Holy shit. If I was sitting in a DC office and I overheard someone walk in with yet another idea to have Batman in a direct-to-video format, I'd shatter their knee caps with my dick and stuff them in a garbage can. Enough already with the Batman.

OK, I'm done ranting.

@ LEEE

i could see Death in the Family, but we'll NEVER see a Killing Joke movie. at least not a faithful one. that story was hardcore! the things the joker did to barbara are WAY to horrific for a movie...especially an animated one

I agree with everything InstigatorGIRL said and... oddly enough, i agree with everything WeaponX said. When it's true, then it's just the goddamn truth LOL. The Batman should have never gotten canceled!!! The Flash NEEDS his series as much as dvd features!!!

Jensen Ackles is a tremendous actor and we've just begun seeing him left and right! I'm telling you if Jensen is in the running for Cap, he'll need a miracle not to be chosen! He is after all, the next Stallone!!!

@Shaman - Hell yes!

@XmutantX - I'm chill now, I've had my rant. So in way, regarding your view on Batman, it's an easy way out story telling wise and also to make a quick buck. I agree, there are a lot of great Batman stories but given that, it's easy to pick one out and make it work. Where is the challenge in that? I do like Batman but there is a thing called overexposure and they've been pimping him out and playing it far too safe going for the quick cash with the back and forth bullshit of Batman and Superman. Even though it would make sense to continue to do so from a business stand point, it doesn't mean we generally need it. They've done the Superman stuff, The Batman stuff (a lot), they've given Wonder Woman a shot and also Green Lantern is on a roll. So why go against any logical flow and boomerang back to Batman when they should continue spending the time and money showcasing their other heroes to get the interest out to the public. Playing safe is for pussies and that's what this reeks of.
I'm sure when this comes out it'll be good, or not, I don't know. It does sound interesting, I'll grudgingly admit but again it's just another lost opportunity and that is where my gripe stems from. Nothing against Batman per se, but The Flash should have been the next up. It's time to curb the underrated treatment the character gets and give him his due, there is a demand for it from the fan community and has been for a long time. The Flash needs his direct-to-dvd to generate the interest needed to push him to bigger and better things and if WB/DC would stop bitch hogging all the resources on Batman it could be done, that's all I'm saying - with less swearing.

weapon@ well u hav ur views and i hav mine...i and im sure maney others can never get enough batman movies...he is a very diverse character 2 display on film..u can go maney ways with batman from a story tellers point of view...unlike the flash who is pretty much 1 demensional...he is fast....if u remember awhile back dc did take a chance on the flash..creating a live action tv series........that failed....he was on the JLA cartoon series...as a b list character...simply because thats what he is....there is only so many things u can see the flash do "fast" be4 u get bored with the whole thing...he is better portrayed in a group atmosphere then solo....he may hav his diehard fans out there such as ur self...be he will never live up 2 the hype that generates around such characters as superman green lantern or batman...thats like asking marvel 2 do a multiple man movie...altho he is a cool character...it will never happen...
flash may get his solo movie..based upon a possible JLA movie....or maybe even a solo animated movie...but dont expect big demands or multiple films.....jus wont happen

Shaman
Shaman - 2/10/2010, 8:58 AM
XmutantX- You do have a point but WB has enough money to make a Flash movie along side a Batman one. Everything they do with the DC heroes gets them boat loads of money. Everyone loved the live action Flash series on tv and everyone loves the animated character in the JL series, where's the problem? It's not like it was a risk, really.

Just look at all the positive posts that followed the Flash Video Game article about the game being canned! We all went APESHIT cause we would've all bought a copy!!! Flash definitely needs to be in the spotlight!

I honestly haven't really enjoyed the 'direct to video' stuff, they usually give you a Cliff's Notes version of a backstory for any character or film and it doesn't feel right. If they're going to hire all these Hollywood actors, at least try for a theatrical release on one of these animated projects!
XmutantX
XmutantX - 2/10/2010, 10:01 AM
ppl wouldnt go 2 theaters 2 watch animated stuff...theres limits 2 animation and in 2days world every1 is trying 2 push the limits with live action movies and there special effects....animation would look bland compared 2 them....dvd is better..cause then u can own them right away!

It's not like pimping batman is a new thing though, I mean he's the only character that's been on the small screen consistently for what, 20 years now? For a good chunk of comic fans that represents most of their life...that's why they're churning out movies because he is the most popular. If Tim Burton had done the Flash, and it inspired Bruce Timm to create an emmy award winning Flash cartoon I'm sure we'd be inundated with Flash movies right now...but he didn't so we're not. It's a popularity contest.

XmutantX - 2/10/2010, 10:09 AM
guardian@ its not jus movies...his comics dominate...like i said...flash, in no way shape or form..will ever match the bat!...and thats jus speaking the truth....he's a in-group character..thats it

I like most of the Batman stuff they do and want them to continue but agree with Shaman that they can do the other stuff too. I think the reason that The Flash tv show did not do that well rating wise is because CBS never gave it a real chance. I dont understand why because at the time there were no real action shows on. Everything at the time was sitcoms. I think action shows just were not popular at the time. If they were to redo the series now I think it would have do really well, hell if they had just waited three years till X-Files and NYPD Blue(more of a drama though) came out both guy shows I think it would have done better. I know the ladies like those shows to. But in 1990 most shows seemed more geared toward women.

I dont think The Flash is not one dimensional Barry Alllen was a Cop and forensic scientist. There is so much stuff you can do with that. I like Wally West but did the guy ever have a day job? I cant remember. I love the Flash and I would love to see him in his own show again, movie or in an animated DVD.

What I like most about this new feature is that, and I know it's just a single picture, it looks like something out of Batman TAS. It looks like they're going back to the classic Timm look. Crisis on Two earths is similar, but this just feels classic.

I just wish they did Death In The Family first. Because Jason Todd has never appeared in animated form. There was a time gap between Batman TAS and The Adventures of Batman & Robin series though.

I agree with LEEE they should come out with a Death In the Family and the Killing Joke animated movies first. I never understood their arguement that Todd's story would be too dark. They had an episode where Batgirl fell off a building and [frick]ing died in Gordon's arms...

AND they even killed off Joker in the Batman Beyond movie. They could've done Todd's storyline. They were making excuses like always. They should do a Death In The Family like they did Mask of the Phantasm. That would be epic!
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 2/10/2010, 12:02 PM
That would be epic indeed, I'd love to see it. But I think that this movie will be equally great if these use a series of flash backs(perhaps in black and white)exploring who Todd was and how he got to be the Red Hood.

thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 2/10/2010, 12:29 PM
Yeah, I think Judas contract has been shelved, it would have been cool to see though.

And I agree Grif, to succeed this needs o show Todd's death in some form or another.
ironknight27
ironknight27 - 2/10/2010, 12:30 PM
I agree with LEEE in saying they should have had at least a Death In the Family movie out before the Under the Hood but like grif said as long as Jason's death is explained it could be very good. I am glad that they are going to have Nightwing included in this film.

InstigatorGIRL- Seriously they should have Conroy and Hammil signed on for life! Both would have made great contributions to this film.
JasonTodd
JasonTodd - 2/10/2010, 12:42 PM
i personally think the story was a bit weak in death in the family. dont get me wrong it still is very good. but as i re-read the novel it doesnt seem to hold up. then the joker gets free on some sort of diplomatic immunity...like i said still very good because of the precident it set-with the fans voting for Jason's demise and batman's failure, but story wise its just ok.
