Last month, we learned that Chris Pratt will voice the titular plumber in Nintendo's upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated movie, and the Guardians of the Galaxy star has now signed on to play Garfield the cat in a new animated adaptation from Alcon Entertainment and Sony Pictures.
The script is being penned by Academy Award-nominated Finding Nemo writer David Reynolds and directed by Mark Dindal (Chicken Little), who have previously worked together on The Emperor’s New Groove.
Garfield, the lazy, Monday-hating, lasagne-loving orange tabby cat, was created by Jim Davis back in the '70s, and still holds the record as the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world. The character has previously appeared in several animated series and two live-action/animated hybrid movies, 2004's Garfield and 2006’s Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, which were not well-received by critics despite strong voice work from Bill Murray.
Pratt recently starred in sci-fi adventure The Tomorrow War, and is set to reprise the role of Owen Grady for Jurassic World: Dominion. He will soon return to the MCU as Star-Lord when he begins filming James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
