New TOY STORY 4 Plot Details; Rashida Jones And Will McCormack Added To Writing Team
It was revealed yesterday that Toy Story 4 is on the way from director John Lasseter, but we now have additional details on the setting and plot directly from him as well as news on who will be penning the fourthquel (?), a specific release date, and more. Hit the jump for details!
Most people assumed that Toy Story 3 would be the final instalment of that franchise, but Disney will once again return to their most successful franchise on June 16th, 2017. John Lasseter - who helmed the first two movies as well as A Bugs Life and both Cars movies - is directing, and he told The Los Angeles Times that this instalment will be a love story which picks up where the last one ended. "A lot of people in the industry view us doing sequels as being for the business of it, but for us it's pure passion," he told the site. "We only make sequels when we have a story that's as good as or better than the original. We don't just, because of the success of a film, automatically say we're going to do a sequel and then figure out what we're going to do."
The Toy Story franchise has grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide and some believe Pixar have lost their touch in recent years, so how much of that is true is debatable! Regardless, it has also been revealed that after Lasseter and Andrew Stanton (Wall-E) wrote a treatment, Rashida Jones and Will McCormack were drafted in to pen the screenplay after Pixar took note of their 2012 comedy Celeste and Jesse Forever. "They have such a great sense of character and originality," Lasseter said of Jones and McCormack. "And I wanted to get a strong female voice in the writing of this."
