PADDINGTON 2 Is No Longer The Top Rated Movie On Rotten Tomatoes After Negative Review

Get your hardest of stares at the ready, because the universally (well, almost) loved Paddington 2 has lost its "perfect" Rotten Tomatoes rating after a negative review from 2017 was only just added...

Paddington 2 is no longer the top-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes after a negative review from 2017 was added to the site.

Last month, Paul King's sequel became the aggregator's most positively reviewed film after a negative reaction to Orson Welles' classic Citizen Kane was dug up after 80 years. Now, Paddington 2 has suffered the same fate after a 2 out of 5 star review from Eddie Harrison of film-authority.com was added.

“This is not my Paddington Bear," he writes. "But a sinister, malevolent imposter who should be shot into space, or nuked from space at the first opportunity. Over-confident, snide and sullen, this manky-looking bear bears little relation to the classic character, and viewers should be warned; this ain’t yo mamma’s Paddington bear, and it won’t be yours either. Maybe if you’ve never seen the tv show and don’t know any better, this’ll work, but long-term Paddington fans will find this too much to bear.”

Harrison claims that his review is not new, as he gave his reaction to the movie during a BBC Radio segment when it was released in 2017. Even if that's true, it doesn't explain why he only decided to add it now. Clearly, this man has no joy whatsoever in his life.

In all seriousness, nobody really puts that much stock in RT scores, anyway, and just because a movie has a "perfect" rating, doesn't make it the "greatest movie of all time."

The most positively-reviewed accolade now goes to Debra Granik's superb 2018 drama Leave No Trace starring Ben Foster and Thomasin McKenzie, which sits at 100% with 238 ratings and is now unequivocally the greatest movie of all time.

"this ain’t yo mamma’s Paddington bear, and it won’t be yours either. "

See this is the side effect of allowing more reviewers on the site. You get rejects.

I haven't actually seen the film but I find it hard to believe his character is that different based on what I've heard.

@Nightwing1015 - He's talking nonsense. Not everyone has to like every movie, of course, but he's clearly just being a contrarian for the sake of it based on his review.

Movie was s*hit but I think this guy is taking a children's film too seriously. You have to view films like this and ww2 through a forgiving lense because they are meant for a very specific audience. We shouldn't pretend it's great when it's not but as an adult how much thought is someone willing to put into a review of power rangers or pokemon.

It kinda looks like this review was purposely written to knock the movie off it’s top spot. It is a lot more hateful towards the movie than it feels like it should be. It’s a bit too over the top.
