If the Oscars celebrate those considered the best in the film industry, then the Razzies highlight the worst. The "awards" don't receive the sort of attention they once did (certainly not like when Halle Berry showed up to accept her prize for Catwoman), but always make for fun - and often surprising - reading.
Space Jam: A New Legacy was one of 2021's most disappointing blockbusters, and, unsurprisingly, earns a lot of nominations. However, while there are a lot of genuinely bad movies and performances highlighted, many have seemingly been thrown in because the organisers are looking to capitalise on social media buzz in order to play into last year's most popular "Film Twitter" memes.
For example, Ben Platt, who came under fire for playing a character he was far too old for in Dear Evan Hansen, is made fun of. Meanwhile, it's hard to escape the feeling that Ben Affleck and Jared Leto's work in The Last Duel and House of Gucci, respectively, has only been brought up because they both looked pretty silly in the movies and not because there was anything inherently wrong with their performances.
There's even an entire category devoted to the B movies Bruce Willis starred in last year, so it's hard to take the Razzies too seriously...then again, that's kind of the point!
