As we draw nearer to the release of
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, new merchandise and product toy line tie-ins have begun to be revealed. The latest is LEGO's The Rexcelsior, a 1,800-plus piece set inspired by one of the ships in the film.
If you've seen the trailers for
The LEGO Movie 2, then you're probably familiar with the Rexcelsior; it's the super-awesome sci-fi spaceship belonging to Rex Dangervest, the ruggedly handsome, galaxy defending archaeologist, cowboys, and raptor hunter.
He's totally freaking awesome and everything Emmet aspires to be. In fact, as shown in the trailers, Emmet even goes so far as to draw stubble on his own face so he can look like his space hero.
The much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all, “The LEGO® Movie 2: The Second Part” reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are now facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than it can be rebuilt. The battle to defeat the invaders and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a galaxy filled with fantastic planets, strange characters and catchy new songs. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.
The Rexcelsior LEGO set will be available starting May 1, 2019, for $149.99. It includes two minifigures: Stubble Trouble Emmet and Rex Dangervest, plus Emmet and Rex microfigures and 5 micro raptor dinosaur toy figures. The ship itself features big boosters, dual microfigure cockpit, a detailed microscale interior with actual rooms and compartments, functioning doors, and a 6-missile spring-loaded shooter (along with an ammo storage compartment). It also includes micro builds of Emmet's house, a forklift, two interaptors, and a dropship.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part opens in theaters February 8, 2019.
