The Super Mario Bros. Movie was among the first titles to drop a TV spot during Sunday night's Super Bowl, but this probably isn't what many of you will be expecting!
Shared by Illumination (via Toonado.com), it features Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) in a retro-inspired commercial for their plumbing company. This suggests the former's trip to the Mushroom Kingdom will likely be his first adventure, and the fact it's set to "The Mario Rap" will likeky bring back fond memories for many of you.
It was originally performed by Lou Albano and Danny Wells as the theme song for the beloved The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, and this is the kind of Easter Egg fans of the franchise can get on board with. It feels like a lot of love and respect has gone into the movie, that's for sure, and we're excited to see how it all comes together.
Another poster has also been released highlighting Mario, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), and Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) as they take a moment to look out at the Mushroom Kingdom.
Visually, at least, The Super Mario Bros. Movie promises to be very much in line with the Nintendo video games. Throw in that admittedly impressive, albeit surprisingly divisive, A-List voice cast and we're fully on board with this one.
From Nintendo and Illumination comes a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film also stars Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Jack Black as Bowser, as Toad, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to be released in theaters on April 7, 2023.
