Hello CBMers!!!
After watching a film in multiple viewings, my opinions on them become more defined and clear. These reviews entail three parts: the good, the bad, and the ugly. After the compilation will come the final grade for the film.
Justice League: War
Justice League: War is an animated film adaptation of DC comic's current Justice League series' initial story arc. The movie replaces Aquaman's role of the comic book with Shazam. The story revolves around how the members of the Justice League first come together. They must prevent an invasion attempt by Darkseid and his countless minions. Conflicts occur, mistakes made, chemistry developed, and in the end the Justice League is born.
The Good
• Animation. The movement was fast and fluid, really excelled in the many action sequences.
• Design. Excellent character designs, very little was modified from their looks in the comic books, where they did (Wonder Woman for instance) it was an upgrade and better suited the overall look of the movie.
• Action. Brisk brutal action scenes that move at break neck speeds. Impactful and spectacular fights when the heroes battle the Parademons.
• Setup. The pacing is quite good and the movie moves along very streamlined. Features an interesting mid credits that alludes to a possible sequel.
• Cyborg. A different interpretation of Cyborg, when compared to his previous outings in animation, that is intriguing and edgy.
The Bad
• Characters. If a character had any character development it was minimal and boring. The villains were vastly underdeveloped and in the case of Deesad, markedly forgettable.
• Voice Acting. Not all but some of the voice acting was annoying and dull. Batman and Shazam were examples of the bad, and Cyborg and Flash were actually standouts. Overall the voice acting was a miss throughout the movie.
• No Aquaman. The story this film adapted featured Aquaman and the film missed the opportunity to showcase this new bad ass Aquaman.
• Story. This movie was basically one long fight, many parts became repetitive. You can only see Wonder Woman stab and behead Parademons so much.
The Ugly
• Humans. What gives, a big alien invasion occurs and the goverment sends all of three jets? Steve Trevor is a whimpering push over? A protester does what with a Wonder Woman costume?
• What city are they in? Neither one the three cities were defined, were there three?
• When did the Omega Beams become such a soft throwaway attack?
In the end
This movie tries so hard to be something more than it is. Great animation, smooth pacing, but awful character development. In the end it's all about story, and this movie feels like one big action sequence stretched out into a movie. Hopefully the hinted at sequel will be better.
