POWER/RANGERS Producer May Tackle CAPTAIN PLANET Next

Adi Shankar’s "Bootleg Universe" is apparently going to keep moving forward - tackling new properties and mediums. After Power Rangers, Punisher, Venom, Judge Dredd and James Bond, Captain Planet may be next.

Adi Shankar is a bona fide, successful Hollywood film producer with movies such as The Grey, Dredd and Lone Survivor to his credit.  However, he also has a passion for self-expression, which he exhibits through his personal Bootleg Universe.  To date, his personal, creative outlet has tackled the Punisher (Dirty Laundry), Venom (Truth in Journalism), Judge Dredd (Judge Dredd: Superfiend)  and James Bond (James Bond: In Service of Nothing).   With no plans to stop, what other property could Shankar look to explore next?  Shankar told Comic Book Resources, "Captain Planet was my other favorite TV show growing up. The truth is, if you look at our world today, the world we live in right now, that is the world Captain Planet was fighting against. Literally, Captain Planet and the Planeteers lost. If they existed in our world today, they would be labelled eco-terrorists.  I had this whole idea for a movie where it opens with a montage of Captain Planet being shot down by a rocket. Gaia, the spirit of Earth, has brought them all together. She’s surrendering to a private military, but they gun her down. She’s dead. They kill the spirit of Earth. These kids are disbanded, but we learn the fire guy is out there. He’s the lone badass. He’s the vigilante of the group and is still fighting, even though he doesn't’t know what he is fighting for."

Sounds like another wild take on a beloved franchise. Shankar's definitely not making any friends at Sony as the film studio has a live-action Captain Planet movie in development and is currently filming SPECTRE.

Might be hard for Shankar to top Don Cheadle's Captain Planet.
