Dragon Ball Super, the first Dragon Ball anime in 18 years will premiere in Japan on July 5th.  It's likely that one of the top 3 anime streaming services (Hulu, CrunchyRoll or Funimation) will simulcast the series for international viewers in the U.S. and U.K. The companion manga for Dragon Ball Super will be released on June 20th.  Manga artist Toyotarō is illustrating the series which was developed partially by original Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.  Not a lot is now about the new story, other than the fact that it is set a few years after the defeat of Maijin Buu, during a time when the earth is at peace. This new story effectively wipes Dragon Ball GT from continuity.

I wonder if we'll see the other Gods that Bills mentioned.

Can't wait. Even though he technically isn't canon, I'm hoping Gogeta shows up in the Super at some point.

This is exciting! So will there be all-new episodes that are almost 100% flashbacks of earlier episodes, and others that are mostly just two guys charging their powers for 20 of the 23 minutes and still others of Bulma and/or Chi Chi or other worthless characters sitting around complaining/worrying for an entire episode? Count me in!

All I'm saying is I went to school with a guy that actually took the time to take the entire Frieza story (all of Seasons 2 & 3... I believe he said it was around 60-70 episodes) and he cut out all the filler crap, just leaving the action and the relevant plot stuff. It took him forever, because back then, folks, we didn't have fancy editing tools like we do now. Anyways, he got it down to about 3-4 hours from like 130 hours of shows. It was damn near watchable!

@GentlemanlyBatman Batman doesn't even stand a chance against the weakest Z fighter!

I can't wait for this to come outdubbed in America. Hopefully the Funimation people will do the US version again, and get Bruce Falconer to replace that crappy music they use in Japan.

Was GT ever really considered a continuation of the manga? I mean it had a bunch of elements exclusive solely to the anime so I just assumed it was a continuation of that and not the manga.

I love it. I agree ThePowerCosmic... So glad GT is out. From what I ever read ekrolo2, Akira Toriyama had nothing to do with GT. It was an attempt to keep the series going but failed. Originally I heard Toriyama wanted to stop after the Cell Saga but was asked to go further. That is why Dragon Ball Z Kai only went to Cell and now they added Dragon Ball Kai 2014. At the end of the Buu Saga, Goku was so powerful that there was no one else to fight.

@ekrolo2
Dragonball GT was not based on the Dragonball manga like the original series was and it wasn't created by Akira Toriyama therefore, it should be regarded as non-canon. Most fans see Dragonball GT as a horrible addition to the franchise while others prefer to think of it as just a long fanfic or as a "what-if" story.

Super freaking excited x20 for this, although I am probably the only person in the US who really enjoyed Dragonball GT. Hopefully we get an English dub for this along with Bruce Falconer music, because as far as I know he's still alive. Cha-La, Head Cha-La!!!

Weird that it cancels out GT. Can't wait though. Any reason it isn't just called Super Dragonball? Not really mad about it, just curious. Is it a Japanese thing?

RavenHunter - I agree with everything you said... except I want to see Gohan return as a badass too. I don't like that he got all lazy when he had the potential to be stronger than Goku.

BUT DEFINITELY give Vegeta a saga of his own. that would automatically be my favorite saga.
