After everything that happened with
Justice League, Zack Snyder is making his return in a big way and is getting into business with Netflix. That freedom from studio bosses fretting about movies that are guaranteed box office hits has clearly empowered the filmmaker because as well as
Army of the Dead, he's now developing an anime series based on Norse mythology for them.
Snyder will team with frequent collaborator Jay Olivia on the project. He worked as a storyboard artist on everything from
300 to
Watchmen and
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and has been a vocal supporter of the "Snyder Cut." Olivia, who co-created the series with Snyder, will serve as showrunner, director, and executive producer. Snyder will be an executive producer.
"Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation. We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style," said John Derderian, head of Anime programming for Netflix.
Netflix has been building an anime slate in recent months and
Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently came on board to take charge of a
Magic: The Gathering TV series.

Justice League Was Supposed To Feature The Anti-Life Equation
WetaFX recently revealed that the massive battle they worked on for that flashback scene in Justice League was for the anti-life equation and Snyder has since hinted that Darkseid's control over that would have been what led to the seemingly evil version of Superman we saw in Batman v Superman's "Knightmare" sequence. Clearly, the filmmaker was not planning on shying away from the comic books!
