POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU Models Reveal New Look At Charizard, Psyduck, Snubbull, And More

Earlier this week, the first trailer for Detective Pikachu shocked us all by promising an awesome looking movie, and now some models of various Pokemon from the film have been revealed. Take a look!

Like most video game movies, no one was really expecting much from Detective Pikachu and most fans of the franchise struggled to get their heads around the fact that Legendary Pictures had chosen that as the first live-action Pokemon movie.

While a trailer obviously doesn't tell the full story (remember how good Warcraft looked?), the signs do appear to be pointing to this being something special and a movie which actually does these iconic creatures justice as they finally make their live-action debut. While the teaser included plenty of Pokemon cameos, we now have a closer look at them as well as some that didn't appear.

Thanks to IGN, we have models - presumably used for VFX reference on set and to give the actors something to react to - of Pikachu, Psyduck, Charizard, Snubbull, Greninja, and more.

So, to take a look at these models, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button below.

Pikachu

Pikachu has been brought to life in a really effective way and while Ryan Reynolds voicing the "detective" is an unexpected decision, it's great to know that we're going to hear "Pika! Pika!" too.

Psyduck

Lucy's sidekick in the movie, Psyduck has often been used as a punchline but he's an incredibly powerful Pokemon and the trailer pointed to us seeing that at some point in Detective Pikachu

Charizard

Charizard was one of the most highly sought after Pokemon cards when I was a kid so it's a real treat seeing him brought to life on the big screen in what looks like it will be a standout sequence.

Snubbull

How cute is this? While Pokemon GO obviously increased interest in the franchise again, The Pokemon Company must be well aware that they're going to sell a lot of merchandise next year.

Greninja

I'm not overly familiar with this newer Pokemon but Greninja is reportedly extremely popular due to his ninja abilities (the clue is in the name, I guess). Yes, that is his tongue he's using as a scarf.

Creepy or cute? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on these live-action Pokemon in the comments section below and be sure to stay tuned for more from Detective Pikachu.

I love how the models actually look like real life Pokémon without changing the designs. It must be a wave of nostalgia for many fans.

Still wish it was about trainers and Pokemon battles and gym badges and the Pokemon League Championships. This feels like a spin off that should have been made after the original trilogy of Ash and Pikachu movies were made. I'm all for fleshing out and world building but it's just odd THIS is the story they felt they needed to lead with. Its risky, because if this isn't a bonafide hit then we may never see the Ash story on the big screen in live action, similar to how that train wreck Dragon Ball Evolution destroyed the chances of me getting a quality live action DBZ movie in my lifetime.

I'm just surprised they went with how the Pokemon actually look like and have them running around. That surprised me. It looks pretty decent and I may watch it just for that.

Off topic: I saw some old videos of Stan Lee from the Marvel tribute and I thought he looked a little bit like Pedro Pascal. Then this site published two articles back-to-back with thumbnails of Stan Lee and Pedro Pascal. I know it's WAY TOO SOON because the great man and legend just passed away, but if anyone ever gets down to tell a great, honest and respectful story about the man in film, I think Pedro Pascal should play Stan Lee.

@BlindWedjat - I believe Leonardo Dicarpro has stated he wants to play stan lee in a biopic. And i doubt anyone would deny him that. I can even see it.

Never expected that I would be hyped for this movie.
But these designs and the trailer really won me over.

@sixthsense - I got my first and only Charizard from a kid in Central Park for five bucks. And I believe that was the last card I needed to complete my first edition set, even though I wasn't playing it much anymore.

Very surprised at what this looks like. Upon the announcement i thought it was going to be a movie with just going to be pikachu and no other pokemon, never thought it would be intertwined with other pokemon.

I never played this game, but does Ash or at least Team Rocket have anything to do with it?

@four20smoke - Nope, totally unrelated to anything from the anime.
