Shane Black Updates DOC SAVAGE And DEATH NOTE

The Iron Man 3 director updates two highly anticipated projects he's had in the pipeline for quite sometime, adaptations of the noir pulp hero Doc Savage and the popular Japanese manga Death Note.

Shane Black could catapult to a higher tier of director after box office numbers for Iron Man 3 are tallied. That can only mean good things for adaptations of Doc Savage and Death Note even if they are properties owned by Disney rivals Warner Bros. and Sony. Said Black on the projects, "Right now I’ve got this thing at Warner Bros. called Death Note that I like a lot. It’s a Japanese Manga that’s very tense and really cool. And also something at Sony I’m really excited about, something that as a kid I loved. It’s Doc Savage, the old series of pulp novels and doing Doc Savage right, finding the way to get that script correct has been one of the guiding passions of my adult life. If I can get that script and make it happen in the next 90 days or so then I’d love to make that."

Sound like Black's efforts will be concentrated on Doc Savage once his promotional duties for Iron Man 3 are satisfied. He'll be partnering with screenwriters Chuck Mondry and Anthony Bagarozzi in an effort to crank out a first draft in 3 months. Depending on what's in Black's contract with Marvel, Warner Bros. and Sony it will be interesting to see which studio lays claim on the next project from the director. What would you like to see Black work on next?
