Evangeline Lilly Reveals An Alternate Version Of ANT-MAN AND THE WASP's After-Credits Scene

Ant-Man and The Wasp star Evangeline Lilly reveals that we could have seen a slightly different version of the sequel's Avengers: Infinity War after-credits scene but there's a good reason it was cut.

Ant-Man and The Wasp didn't acknowledge the events of Avengers: Infinity War until the movie's after-credits scenes. In the first of those, The Wasp, Hank Pym, and Janet Van Dyne turned to dust following Thanos' victory and Scott Lang was left trapped within the Quantum Realm. However, Evangeline Lilly has now revealed that the scene was originally going to play out on screen quite a bit differently.

"I kind of got a giggle when I saw the final product, because they basically just cut our reactions out completely and cut to ash," the actress revealed before adding that the change was "much more dramatic and worked very well for the scene." As for why the trio's reactions weren't used, Lilly explained that they "blew it" because none of them were sure what was supposed to be going on.

"None of knew what we were doing! I think we made it look a little bit more like an ascension to heaven than any sort of negative and scary happening," she added before elaborating on that point:

"This is one of the last days of shooting the whole movie and, you know…we read about the Snappening. At the time, we still didn’t really entirely know what exactly that was, and it’s because we hadn’t seen or been a part of shooting Infinity War. We knew, like, the basic idea. We knew that Thanos had snapped his fingers and people disappeared, but we didn’t know… I hadn’t seen Tom Holland crying out and begging Iron Man to ‘Please, please, I don’t want to go, I don’t want to go’ and we hadn’t seen the emotion or the drama or the sort of angst and maybe pain surrounding the ashing or the Snappening when we were shooting it. I don’t think [director] Peyton [Reed] really even knew what that was supposed to look like or be, because none of us had been a part of Avengers: Infinity War."

Were you disappointed that we didn't get to see the reaction of these characters when they turned to dust or was it more shocking to see that they had all disappeared after cutting back from the Quantum Realm? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on these remarks in the comments section.

I thought the movie was average at best but I like how well executed this scene was.

@NathimusPrime - My theater was absolutely shocked by that scene.

Loved the film and the way they executed 'The Snappening'

like i said before ... the is continuity error in that scene. Thanos family invaded New York and they left with Doctor after like 15-20 minutes. Still with that ammount of time another attack was reported by the media (also Tony Stark disappeared which was also BIG THING). I guess Hank and the rest of the gang (maybe beside his wife) would knew there is something in the air and they would discuss it among themself. Not just SPOILER********making a cure for their friend Ghost)************SPOILER END.

@jerryblake - Yes it is a bit reckless of Pym IF Scott entered the QR post-Black Order invasion.

I can already read the excuses coming from Peyton Reed about how time passes much more slowly in the QR, then there's every chance that Scott jumped in there before the Black Order arrived on earth and any of Infinity War took place. For all we know the Pyms are waiting a long time for Scott and are getting very anxious about it given developing events elsewhere.

HOWEVER, they have instant radio comms setup (which I hated because it completely contradicts everything they've explained so far about the Quantum Realm). Instant real time comms wouldn't be possible unless there is a massive way time for the Pyms but to Scott it's like having an instant conversation.

Anyway I'm sure Marvel can spin it in their favour, I'm just not sure there's a way of doing it without contradicting the exposition from at least one of the two movies.

@jerryblake -

There's basically a war going on in Chicago, right now, and the cops in LA aren't doing anything about it. Strange.

The Avengers didn't call Scott for help. Scott doesn't own the Ant-Man suit, and Hank apparently doesn't like Stark.

Quake didn't try to stop Thanos, either. And neither did Deathlok or that Asgardian,Elliot Randolph, hiding out on earth. Only that insanely egotistical Graviton made any attempt.

@Luminus - thanks. I was going to reply with the same but you spelled it out well. It seems some ppl aren't in touch with the nuances with some of these characters. Why would Hank want to get involved in avengers business

@Vigor - It's not about staying out of other people's business. It's about recklessness. Perhaps it might be better to see how this alien invasion thing pans out before sending Scott into the Quantum Realm.
Vigor
Vigor - 10/15/2018, 5:07 AM
@KungFuKoala - I just don't see that being the case, knowing how humans work. When 9/11 happened, work in the area was shut down and schools closed. But it was business as usual in California, or even new jersey. Not too get grim but just using that as an example. People don't stop doing what they do unless it's a clear zombie apocalypse or something.

And we must remember, Scott wasn't vacationing in the quantum realm. He went there to help save a life (ghost).

Sorry I just don't see Scott, hank and crew dropping what they do to hold their breath about iron man coming back from a 15 minute invasion. They didn't know about wakanda or how big the threat really was. If anybody knew about it, the entire world would be preparing. When you have Nick Fury, the world's most astute secret spy, surprised at what's happening.. Then this clearly isn't something that the world is prepared for!
KungFuKoala
KungFuKoala - 10/15/2018, 6:18 AM
@Vigor - But Fury wasn't surprised, he and Maria Hill were definitely in "response mode" before the snap happened yet they were under no obligation to do so.

And comparing how the Pyms might react to us regular joes is a bit redundant. The world carries on because 99.9% of people are obliged either by school or work to do so. Post 9/11 I'm sure most people would have preferred to stay glued to the 24 hour news coverage but didn't do so as to not face the repercussions.

Given Pym's insight (i.e. he's no mug) he understands better than anyone how devastating being caught in the QR can be. And with two not one alien vessels sightings (don't forget Edinburgh) within a short space of time, Pym should have considered that impending activity anywhere on the globe was likely.

Anyways, Scott stuck in the QR gives us A4 so who am I to complain. Plus the execution of the credits scene was stunning.

@Luminus

SHIELD is connected to MCU in name only. We’ll never see Quake or anyone besides Coulson jump over into the movies.

We don’t really know what Pym thinks of Stark. There was a line about it in the first movie but if aliens are invading and it looks like the end times then it might be a good idea to help out.

Yeah, I do feel the same. Then again it all depends on what circumstances kept him from joining.

Maybe all flights were locked down? Idk.

@regularmovieguy - @Vigor - It's not clear how much time has passed both from the end of the main part of AatW and the credits scenes and from New York to Wakanda. There is every reason to believe the Wakanda part wasn't high profile in the media, (the whole battle took maybe a couple of hours). We'd need to assume that government sources knew ships were in orbit and went to Wakanda, but that isn't necessarily common knowledge.

Depending on how long between NY and Wakanda, the short fight in NY and subsequent disappearance of Tony Stark aren't necessarily hot button news. The ship left and no army was left behind. Plenty for cable news to prattle on about, but not an imminent threat to everyone that necessitates global, or even national, shutdown. Add to that the simple possibility that they just weren't paying that close of attention. My car got towed the morning of 9/11 and with all the hubbub in getting it back, it was 3 hours after both towers were down before I saw anything on the news. Given that they were busy working on Scott's first controlled trip to the quantum realm (which they could have been preparing months for), I'd imagine flipping on WHIH news wasn't top priority that day, even if Wakandan happenings were being reported.

@regularmovieguy - "We’ll never see Quake or anyone besides Coulson jump over into the movies."

Pure speculation.

"if aliens are invading and it looks like the end times then it might be a good idea to help out."

Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X NEVER joined forces, despite how bad the situation was for blacks. So, wrong there, as well.

regularmovieguy - 10/16/2018, 2:48 AM
@Luminus

You’re comparing Hank Pym and Tony Stark to MLK and Malcolm X? Didn’t know they’re relationship in the MCU was so defined.

Lmao and how is that speculation? It’s never going to happen. I don’t even think Feige watches/pays attention to most of the TV stuff.

I KNEW you would try that B.S. It's an analogy to show your statement was fallacious. A fitting one, at that.

"It’s never going to happen."

That was said about Spider-Man joining the MCU.

as for the movie - i did not have high hopes for this movie so i wasn't disappointed that much. after the trailer came out i knew it in my heart it won't be even nearly as good as original. there are some element that i like (like Ghost character and Goggins character to some point) but i guess that the film is lacking a true villain.

also the story was pretty straight forward as i recall. just "get the building" chases and not much more.

i would say it's the most non-entertaining movie of the summer. sorry. even Jurassic World and The Incredibles 2 were more entertaining. MI Fallout is the winner here.
