Earlier today, Marvel Studios released the first teaser trailer for Ant-Man and The Wasp. While it was heavy on action, it also featured plenty of big reveals and the signs are pointing to the sequel being something very special indeed. The question now is, what exactly does it tell us about the movie?
Well, we've taken an in-depth look at the teaser to highlight all the biggest plot points and some of the coolest moments. From possible villain reveals to potential Avengers 4 set-up, we've got you covered! All you need to do is click on either one of the buttons below to check out the list in its entirety.
Are you guys excited for Ant-Man and The Wasp? With any luck, you will be after reading this...
Is Bill Foster A Bad Guy?
Maybe, yeah! While it could just be some clever editing, this trailer makes it look like Bill Foster is present when The Ghost seemingly gains her powers and that might be because he gives them to her! This is purely speculation for now, of course, and it'll be interesting seeing what sort of role he plays.
The Shrinking Submarine
Could this be our first look at how the sequel will depict the Quantum Realm? Janet Van Dyne remains trapped there and it would make sense for Hank Pym to build a transport of some sort which allows the heroes to travel through it without getting lost. After all, Scott Lang barely made it out last time.
Hank Pym And The Wasp Didn't Sign The Sokovia Accords
Tony Stark would have no doubt been well aware that Hank Pym was the one responsible for Scott Lang's amazing abilities (Scott even namedrops his mentor while in General Ross' custody) so that explains why he and his daughter Hope have been forced to go on the run. In fact, we see that the FBI is hunting them down, presumably because neither wants anything to do with the Sokovia Accords!
Antony 2.0
Amazingly, the death of Antony (Scott Lang's flying ant) in Ant-Man was pretty damn hard-hitting and probably the first time you've ever cared about an ant...ever! It looks like the pint-sized hero has gained a replacement in this movie but whether there will be that same emotional connection isn't clear.
Meet The Ghost
One of the most intriguing additions to Ant-Man and The Wasp is The Ghost. Played by Hannah John-Kamen, the gender-swapped villain will clearly have a key role in proceedings and this teaser offers a look at both her powers and makes it clear she's not on the side of the angels (look closely and you'll notice that she's actually one of the motorcyclists chasing down Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne).
Some Inventive Uses For Pym Particles
When Peyton Reed boarded Ant-Man, he was working with set pieces dreamed up by original director Edgar Wright. Here, the filmmaker is clearly being given the opportunity to let loose as the action in the sequel looks a lot bigger (no pun intended) and far more inventive. That's evident from what looks set to be a fantastic chase sequence and the appearance of...a giant Pez dispenser?! It's Hello Kitty too!
Scott Lang Is On House Arrest
Ant-Man was among the heroes Steve Rogers broke out of The Raft at the end of Civil War but it clearly wasn't all smooth sailing for Scott once he returned home to his daughter. The FBI appears to be all over him (that presumably would have been S.H.I.E.L.D.'s job once upon a time) and he's tagged and seemingly put on house arrest here. However, it won't be long before he goes on the run yet again...
The Wasp Kicks Some Ass
The Wasp gets top billing in this sequel and the signs are all pointing to the character most definitely earning that. This teaser makes it clear that she's a force to be reckoned with as we watch the new hero take flight, shrink at will, and use her stingers to take down some formidable looking bad guys.
Giant-Man Is Back And Bigger Than Ever
Giant-Man was pretty damn huge in Civil War but he's going to be even bigger in Ant-Man and The Wasp as he towers over people in this trailer. Had he been this big the last time we saw him, things for #TeamCap could have played out differently but it will be fun seeing how he's used in the sequel.
The Wasp Isn't Happy About Missing Civil War
Understandably, Hope Van Dyne doesn't seem best pleased about missing out on the events of Civil War and it sounds like Scott Lang took it upon himself to suit up and help Captain America do battle with Iron Man. This could be construed as a tease for Avengers 4 too as The Wasp does sound pretty intrigued by the prospect of joining Earth's Mightiest Heroes should the call ever come to assemble.
Luis Returns
We've known for a while that Luis will return for Michael Pena's Ant-Man and The Wasp and we see him here seemingly running into danger. Beyond that, we don't really know what he'll be getting up to.
No Sign Of Janet Van Dyne
Ant-Man was a hit for Marvel but the focus of this trailer appears to be reminding moviegoers about his role in Civil War and showing off plenty of inventive action scenes. It is a teaser so that's understandable but it's worth noting that there's not so much as a single hint about the hunt for Janet Van Dyne in Ant-Man and The Wasp. Could it be that ultimately serves as only a subplot in the sequel?
