Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is expected to retain the No. 1 spot at the box office as it heads into its second weekend on general release, but Marvel Studios' first Phase 5 movie may still face some competition in the form of a coked-up black bear.
Elizabeth Banks' bonkers-sounding movie has been getting a lot of positive buzz, and while Cocaine Bear - a gruesome, R-rated black comedy about a bear who goes on a rampage after ingesting a duffle bag full of devil's dandruff - won't come close to Quantumania in terms of ticket sales, it might well entice enough people to "get in line" to make an impact.
Ant-Man 3 will hold its position, but Variety believes ticket sales could plunge by 55% to 65%. Negative reviews don't always hurt major blockbusters, but they certainly don't help, and Peyton Reed's superhero threequel is now the lowest-rated MCU film on Rotten Tomatoes.
Stiffer competition is also on the way in the form of Creed III, Scream VI, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, so it'll be interesting to see if Marvel Studios' sci-fi adventure is able to maintain its footing over the next few weeks.
Are you planning a trip to the cinema this weekend? If so, will it be the pint-sized Avenger or the drug-fuelled animal getting your hard-earned?
