ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Writer Talks Kang/Janet Van Dyne Romance Theories: "Maybe They Had Sex..."

After watching Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, many fans are convinced that things got hot and heavy between Kang and Janet Van Dyne in the Quantum Realm, and the movie's writer all but confirms that...

In Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, we learned that Janet Van Dyne spent quite a bit of time in the Quantum Realm attempting to help Kang the Conqueror repair his Time Chair.

Unaware of his true nature, the original Wasp clearly bonded with her newfound ally and that's led to speculation that they may have grown...close. Yes, many fans are already shipping Kang and Janet (Kanet? Jang?), and the threequel's writer Jeff Loveness has gone some way in confirming those theories during a conversation with IGN

"I mean, yeah you got Mr. Hunk over there all day, so mysterious. He's got his little orb. I mean, I don't know what's in that orb," the scribe joked. "I intentionally left it a little vague, but clearly – let's say they're very good friends [laughs]."

"And I think sometimes we're in kind of this YouTube reaction video world where everyone wants every little detail explained. And I don't think I ascribe to that. I think there's a magic in what is unsaid and what is not explicitly said."

"I love Jane Austen novels or English novels [that] are very sexually repressed. I'm sexually repressed. But I think there's a lot of strength in those types of relationships that could go either way. And maybe it did, maybe it didn't," Loveness continued. "Maybe that's a reason she didn't want to tell her family about it. That's part of it."

That last point is something that's been debated since Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania was released, with many arguing that it made no sense for Janet to not tell her family about Kang's existence. After all, she sent Scott back into the Quantum Realm at the end of Ant-Man and The Wasp

Loveness would elaborate on that point, explaining: "Maybe she didn't want to tell the family or the Avengers about it, because if they went down there, he would f***in' kill them. Or he would get their Pym Particles and get out. It's something that, it's like your grandpa talking about what happened to him in the Pacific Theater in 1944. Best not to bring it up."

"But yeah, maybe they had sex," he concluded. "Who knows?"

We're going to go ahead and guess that they did, especially as Kang seems to take Janet's portrayal so personally. Rumour has it she'll be key to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and with Loveness also writing that movie, answers could be on the horizon.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is currently playing in theaters.

Yes, it's best not to bring up the super powered destroyer trapped in the place your husband is constantly trying to explore and study 🙄.

Also, between this and Steve in she hulk, these writers are obsessed with superheroes having sex.

@Origame - two mentions of sex and they're already obsessed? Damn

@bkmeijer1 - I mean, they devoted like half that episode to the Steve had sex joke. Not only that but there's also much of she hulk devoted to her pursuit of casual sex and the hulk can't get it up scene in incredible hulk. And that's just off the top of my head, not even counting the awkward sex scene in eternals.

@Origame - isn't that like She-Hulk's whole thing in the comcis too though?

And think the difference between Hulk and She-Hulk is that Jen is still in control in hulkform. That's why Banner was afraid, because he wasn't in control.

@bkmeijer1 - ...no. she's basically a daredevil like character, just with super strength and more comedy thrown in.

@Origame - The MCU was getting criticized for being sexless for a long time, so they've been trying to switch it up. I think because of the age difference between Michelle Pfeiffer and Jonathan Majors, they didn't wanna emphasize their past romance as much. I think the actors could've sold it, but cleary there was hesitation from the creative side.

Yeah, nuff said...

Not the audience but the writer should know.
A storyteller shouldn't show his hand but he gots to be aware the cards his holding but i get it...with Marvel or DC you aren't playing solo, so...

Besides, i was actually one the few (if not the only one) who was rooting for Loveness.

I dunno wtf happened with this movie, either he betrayed me or the director failed him by executing his script in a shitty as way, idk...
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/27/2023, 7:42 AM
@Doomsday8888 - honestly, even then I think he doesn't need to.

If I were a writer, I would intentionally let small things be open-ended so that other writers could fill in those gaps.

bkmeijer1 - 2/27/2023, 8:04 AM
@Doomsday8888 - true. That took it too the extreme.

Think that's also because of time constraints and certain expectations they rushed a story out and just came up with story beats to propel the story.

Humperdink
Humperdink - 2/27/2023, 7:29 AM
@EgoEgor -

That's not always how writing works though.

Many famous writers have no idea how a lot of the open-ended situation in their books are resolved and would rather leave that open to interpretation of the reader.

He just doesn't know because he didn't write it to be known.
EgoEgor
EgoEgor - 2/27/2023, 7:46 AM
@Humperdink - I know. I just think it's funny that writers say that to their audiences.

Ambiguous ending is different from this because that's up to the readers interpretation or participation. This is just some useless "who knows"(with a shrug and a wink) that served no purpose. They could've finger painted or played quantum mini-golf. At the end, if it ain't mentioned then it serves no purpose to the story whatsoever. Maybe I'm just more annoyed that this was an actual article.
