Samuel L. Jackson recently confirmed that Don Cheadle and Martin Freeman will appear in Disney+'s Secret Invasion, but has the legendary actor just dropped another spoiler for Nick Fury's MCU future?
Jackson was a recurring presence in Marvel Studios' first two Phases, but took something of a backseat in the Avengers franchise before more about the character's past was revealed in Captain Marvel. From there, Spider-Man: Far From Home replaced the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director with a Skrull, only to reveal that Fury had decided to head into outer space to protect the cosmos.
Talking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Screen Rant), Jackson suggested that while he was shooting Secret Invasion, he was also present on the sets of The Marvels and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. "Well, you know, it’s kind of strange when someone tells you they’re going to give you a nine-picture deal. You know, you go ‘How long am I going to stay alive to make nine pictures?'"
"It used to take a while to make a movie," he continued, "but people make two or three of them at a time. In the Marvel Universe...it’s crazy. When I was in London, it was [Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania], and [The Marvels] was happening, and we were getting ready to do [Secret Invasion]. It was like, three Marvel movies on one lot. I was kind of running around from place to place."
Fury being in The Marvel isn't a surprise after Spider-Man: Far From Home and WandaVision's post-credits scenes, but him being part of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania would be a pleasant surprise. However, you can read Jackson's comments in a couple of different ways, and it's worth noting that nothing is confirmed here.
The prevailing theory online is that we will see Fury in the Ant-Man threequel, especially with the stage being set for the character to finally be a key player again in the MCU's Phase 4.
Secret Invasion is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
