Could DC Entertainment Be Trying To Give Us An AQUAMAN Movie?

The King Of The Seven Seas, Aquaman, has always appeared to be a joke in the comic world up until a couple years ago when the New 52 launched when writer Geoff Johns and artist Ivan Reis brought us new stories of the hero. But could he hold his own movie?

DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns isn't giving up hope that one day we will see Aquaman get the big screen treatment. The aquatic hero certainly hasn't been a fan favorite, but DC has been trying to improve the character in the New 52. Warner Bros. have tried to give the character a TV Show (which didn't get picked up) and he will be getting his own animated feature soon, so it is clear that the studio is gaining a little bit more faith in Aquaman. “He’s a priority character for the company,” says Johns. He explained all the positive aspects about the Justice League member in an interview with Variety. He said, “There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the most well-known characters among super-heroes, and in popular culture.” He suggested that the ocean setting could be an advantage to the writer. “We are finding new areas in the ocean every day. It’s as alien as going to outer space," he said.

There is nothing official yet regarding a feature film based on Aquaman, but DC Comics and WB Entertainment seems to be pushing the character hard. According to Variety:

In 2009 and 2010, Johns turned a large spotlight on Mera, Aquaman’s wife, giving her more presence and personality than she’s had in decades. “What I wanted to do was establish Mera alongside Green Lantern and The Flash in a very big way,” Johns explained, noting that he derived inspiration from the Queen Gorgo character in the 2007 Zack Snyder movie, “300.” Rather than playing up Aquaman’s Atlantis connections, Johns said he deliberately focused on developing his personality, supporting cast and enemies like Black Manta and the Ocean Master.

If WB is looking to expand their DC Cinematic Universe, a good way to do so is by giving characters other than Batman and Superman a chance to shine, and Aquaman is one character that they can attempt. There are already plans of a Flash series, which could then give them courage to do a movie. There are also rumors of Wonder Woman making an appearance in the Man of Steel sequel. While many consider Aquaman a joke, he could possibly bring us a great movie. Would you like to see an Aquaman movie, or are there any other heroes you have in mind? Sound off below!

warner doesn't have faith in any other characters than batman & superman, they took a chance with the green lantern which was a step in the right direction but it sucked so now we're back to more batman & superman movies.

If they make it in the same tone as Man Of Steel but with self referential humour to get past the fact that he is known as a joke.

the only way they can introduce aquaman in a movie if WB does a Wonder Woman movie so they can reference Atlantis. from there they can have him in a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie. a solo movie wont work imo to be honest.

Geoff Johns should not really talk about movies look what happen with Green Lantern.

I would love to see an Aquaman movie. I'm totally alienated when it comes to the recent new 52 series but I remember seeing his character in the old justice league show when he lost his arm me everything.

And he's right about the ocean being an advantage. If you've ever watched any of discoveries "into the deep" series you'd see just how dark and mysterious levels beneath the sea/ocean can be. It's like a totally different world down there.

Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Flash are the 3 most deserving characters, desperately in need of a movie. Aquaman, because he has to shed his corny Super Friends image, Wonder Woman so we can get a badass female hero and Flash because his powers are just so unique and cool.

They say he's a priority character, but it won't really amount to anything. Didn't Diane Nelson say Wonder Woman was a major priority for them as well? When was the last time we got a Wondy project in development?

I honestly think "The Trench" storyline from the new 52 book could work really well as a feature film. Or it could be Green Lantern... I say go for it. Read the new 52 Aquaman to see what I mean. Do it. Read it.

Stop planning and start doing already. Stop this bullshit DC/WB and get some balls. If you can make Captain America and Thor work than Wonder Woman and Aquaman can work as well. Hurry up, I don't have enough time to live.

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Flash
Green Lantern
Aquaman
Cyborg

Sorry it is not the comic books that make Aquaman out to look like a loser it is because of the Super Friends cartoon back in the 60's and people parodying him from there. Aquaman has been cool in the comics well before Geoff Johns took over in the newest DC reboot.
