Joss Whedon: AGE OF ULTRON 'Quicksilver' Is "So Different" From THE FLASH And X-MEN: DOFP

"I was never thrilled," admits Joss Whedon about Fox using Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past, as Kevin Feige & Aaron Taylor-Johnson also discuss the speedster's Avengers: Age of Ultron portrayal

In light of Quicksilver's appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past last year, as well as the ongoing television series based on DC Comics' own Scarlet Speedster, The Flash, Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige and Avengers: Age of Ultron writer-director Joss Whedon set out to make their portrayal of Pietro Maximoff very distinctive. However, actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson says he initially struggled with how his character would look while running. Apparently, the filming process originally involved Taylor-Johnson sprinting on a treadmill in front of green screen, but “There was no real life to it,” he told BuzzFeed on-set last year. “It looked really dull,” he added, so the Marvel production decided to just film the running sequences outdoors. “The more dynamic or the messier my arms were or the wider my legs were, [and] the more I changed up the wave and the rhythm of the running, the better,” he said. “It feels more emotional and expressive. It’s a lot more fun that way.”

About Quicksilver appearing in both Age of Ultron and X-Men: Days of Future Past, BuzzFeed also spoke with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige: “It’s a unique scenario; That’s the only character where that could happen, and it happened,” he commented. Meanwhile, Joss Whedon reassured that he had always planned to introduce both Quicksilver and his sister, the Scarlet Witch in
The Avengers sequel. he had informed Marvel Studios shared his reaction to the “And then, you know, months after I started, they were like, [Days of Future Past] just changed Juggernaut to Quicksilver. I’m like, What?!” he explained. Though both Whedon and Feige praised Quicksilver's highlight sequence in Days of Future Past, they were quick to dismiss comparisons. “We knew it would be very different based on the various interpretations of the character through the comic,” Feige said. “It may as well be different characters.” “There’s going to be an entire season of The Flash that’s gone on before my movie too, and what Aaron is doing and what I wanted him to do is so different from what they were doing in that movie, that I think we’re fine,” Joss Whedon added. “I think there’s room for more than one Quicksilver. But yeah, I was never thrilled.”

In addition to debuting an exclusive Avengers: Age of Ultron featurette and still images (both of which you can check out here), BuzzFeed talked more with  Whedon about the much-anticipated movie's run-time, dream sequences, cameos and "super siblings" (here). What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Avengers: Age of Ultron May 1, 2015.

I don't care for Quicksilver. I liked Quicksilver in DOFP and didn't mind his look in the film. I mean hell, it took place in the 70s. I think Aaron could be a good Quicksilver (although I really, really felt he wasn't good in Godzilla).

What I really want is some Vision footage.

When does this film come out in Europe? Early or late April?

When I saw him running around in the last TV spot it reminded me of Small ville.

@Desstroke- He won't.
-He's a brand new character.
-He's played by a recognisable, talented, up-and-coming actor.
-He's Marvel's speedster, so they can compete with Fox and DC on that front.
-His death wouldn't have much of an impact given he's brand new.
-They're new characters with powers- why would they waste that?
-He's not in the circle shot because he's a speedster- why o earth would a guy whose power is running super-fast stand around in a circle to fight robots?

Joss is a great director and writer. I loved Buffy, Angel, and Firefly along with Serenity. How about instead of complaining and try to say underhanded insults toward The Flash tv show and Quicksilver from X-Men DOFP, you improve on yours? In the featurette that came out yesterday he said that Quicksilver was slower or as fast as a bullet. Quicksilver is almost as fast as the Flash, the Flash may be able to run faster than the speed of light but Quicksilver can run at mach 10 and I didn't see that in all the new footage. Is it me or do the visual fx for Quicksilver in the new footage seem cheap?

See, guys? ;)
Marvel is confident, and not introduce the character to kill him. At least not in this movie. It would be a tremendous stupidity on the comparisons with FOX.

Yeah the sfx reminded me of Smallvile as I said before.
Hopefully it looks better in the film because for now even the Flash TV show has better speed SFX.

Not much of an ATJ fan, and I don't think he'll live up to Evan Peters, but he should be a good addition to AoU. It's all about the Witch though. She's the biggest addition, along with Vision. Pietro will end up almost an afterthought.

@CIAGuy I think because they decided to use another easily beatable army like the Chitauri that they focused a lot of their fx money on the ultron army

if you don't like a cheap rez to perpetuate a plotline you might want to cover your eyes between the end of Civil War and 1/2 way through the second Infinity War film.

@Kr08 a little bit yeah. But the promos don't show everythimg...it's a tease. I'm sure they're saving some of the bigger QS sequences for the film...really show how his speed works. But in all honesty, I feel there's only sooo much you can do with depicting suoer speed
