Avengers: Doomsday D23 Trailer Breakdown: Everything We Learned From Doctor Doom-Centric Special Look

A new "Special Look" at Avengers: Doomsday was released during D23 last night, and we're now taking a closer look at all the biggest reveals and moments to see what they tell us about the film.

During D23 last night, Marvel Studios gave us another look at Avengers: Doomsday. This latest trailer may contain more answers than we expected, with the footage raising questions about Doctor Doom's mysterious past, his connection to the Fantastic Four, and what exactly he's planning for the MCU's fractured Multiverse.

From the revelation that Victor Von Doom hails from Earth-828 to hints that may set the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars, there are plenty of details worth unpacking.

It's fortunate then that we've gone through the trailer frame by frame to break down the biggest reveals, references to the comics, and theories, including what might really be behind Doom's war on the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four...

7. Doctor Doom Is From Earth-828

HPvUif XIAEdkWQ

We'd suspected this might be the case, but the latest Avengers: Doomsday trailer finally confirms that Doctor Doom hails from Earth-828. Based on Sue Storm's narration, it seems Victor Von Doom was once a friend to the Fantastic Four, and perhaps even a good man.

The Fantastic Four hinted at Doom's connection to the team. Latveria was absent from the United Nations, and we now know that wasn't because they're an isolationist nation. Instead, Victor seems to have cut himself off from the world after suffering a tragic loss.

6. Victor's Tragic Origin Story

HPvUkHVXYAAHrcd

In the MCU, it seems everything changed for Doom when he lost his wife and son, marking a major departure from the comics. On the page, the arrogant Victor is a Latverian student who attendead the same college as Reed Richards; he was never a particularly nice person.

He was left horribly scarred when a device he built to contact his mother, whose soul is trapped in Hell, literally blows up in his face. That begins his descent into villainy, and Victor eventually takes over his childhood home, becoming a dictator who rules Latveria through fear.

5. A Decimated New York

HPvUnetXYAAyXiN

How did Earth-828's Doom lose his family? That's not revealed here, but rumours suggest it was the result of his trying to solve the Incursions laying waste to the Multiverse. Seeking revenge and likely hoping to bring them back from the dead, Victor's wrath will know no bounds.

Is he responsible for laying waste to this version of New York? We think that's a misdirect, but this may be what's left of Earth-10005 after the X-Men have fended off multiple Incursions, or even another familiar version of the Big Apple. The home of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, perhaps?

4. "Stolen Lives"

HPvTtlfWoAA1VaA

"All of you have lived stolen lives," Doom says in the trailer, but what exactly does he mean? We know that Earth-616 is the Sacred Timeline, meaning that Victor (and the Fantastic Four) are Variants from one of countless parallel realities and branching timelines.

If it's true that Loki helped Steve Rogers, Peggy Carter, and their son hide out on Earth-828—leading to the experiment that killed Doom's family—then he may be speaking to them. That, or the experiment saved Earth-616 and Earth-10005 when it was only meant to protect Victor's world.

3. What Did Victor Do?

HPvUndwXcAANiv

This special look at Avengers: Doomsday is very cleverly edited, and we don't believe Mister Fantastic is confronting Doctor Doom about the remains of New York or even the moment he seemingly reveals his true nature and takes down the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four.

Instead, we believe that Doom has somehow manipulated events to ensure there's a Final Incursion that somehow helps him acquire enough power to create a new reality (Battleworld). If Victor killed Loki and stole his power, then he might even be the cause of the Multiverse's end.

2. Franklin Richards

HPvUo TXUAE0B b

We now see that the Human Torch is embracing Franklin Richards, not Sue Storm, as a world seemingly shatters in the background. This could be what Johnny believes are their final moments, but that feels like far too big a scene to give away in an early trailer.

In the Secret Wars comic, Doom rewrites reality to make Sue his wife and Franklin his son. That was weird on the page, but it makes more sense here, particularly if the villain seeks to replace the family he lost with Reed's. We're also expecting Franklin's Power Cosmic to be key.

1. Sentinels Rise

HPvU15CWkAAmitb

In the trailer's money shot, after making short work of Thor—Doom flings Stormbreaker aside like it's nothing—the villain uses his powers to restore a fleet of mutant-hunting Sentinels. We know from a leaked clip that they'll be pitted against the Multiverse's Mightiest Heroes.

It's a great sequence, and one that we believe will come at the midway point of Avengers: Doomsday. Hopefully, it's a precursor to Doom unleashing an army of Doombots during the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four's last stand in the movie's final act.

Check out some 4K screenshots from the Avengers: Doomsday trailer below.

Personally i hate everything i have seen here.
I have read the leaked script about half a year on reddit and everything was true.
Avengers Doomsday is a cgi abomination like Antman 3 and i have zero excitement fir it.
Comments for the trailer are mixed, leaning towards negativity and i don't think the movie will come near Spider-Man 4 at the box office.

@MarvelZombie616 - Or, let me guess, you don't want to give away your "sources" right? So we just have to "take your word for it"? Links or it didn't happen.

@MarvelZombie616 - Doomsday might surpass brand new day in box office. It’s the first avengers film in seven years. The anticipation is ripe. Downey jr returning as Doom, Xmen, F4, the wakandans, Thunderbolts, Avengers, all together for the biggest comicbook extravaganza. Those who watched BND are gonna see Doomsday. Why wouldn’t they? Especially if Spiderman returns. Once tickets are on sale (if they’re not already?) watch how fast it sells out. It doesn’t matter how good the film is, it has everyone’s attention. I don’t see Dune 3 or Jumanji 3 selling out theatres across the country and the world this Christmas do you?

@BiffDitko - Not OP, but i've read it too, so they aren't lying.

You can easily find it by... Gooogling it and spending 30 secs. It's would've taken you less time than writing slop here.

@kylo0607 - Ah yes, writing SLOP. So you just assume what you found on Google is the real deal.
Yet your comment in mine is somehow NOT slop?

@BiffDitko - there's been script leaks on reddit for a long time and based on the trailers those leaks seem to be right.

@Nonameforme - I'd say the track record for Reddit is 30/70.
Meaning it's right about 30% of the time.
I AM a gambling man, but only when the odds are right.
These odds don't match up enough for me to put my money where my big fat mouth is.

@BiffDitko - I don't assume it's real. Because I know it's real.

Entire sequences from the trailers match the plot leak. Which released months before we had any footage from the film.

@kylo0607 - It's not easy to fake a script.
It's just fan fiction in a different format.
I also read a draft of Wadlow's "The Kang Dynasty" and I'm still 50/50 on the legitimacy of it.
I wrote a 59 page outline for a Spider-Man movie when I was a Senior in HS.
I write for a living. Lots of people do. If you have passion amd a fraction of know how, it's fairly easy to do.
Yeah, Ive read stuff on Reddit too.
But it's f***ing REDDIT
The Wadlow Kang Dynasty script I read was emailed to me.
I didn't hunt it out on the internet or Google it.
I'm not going to make you read anymore of my terrible writing, but if you think Google and Reddit are good sources for news then I have some bad news for you...
kylo0607
kylo0607 - 8/15/2026, 11:25 AM
@BiffDitko - They are absolutely good sources when months after the release of the script leak, entire scenes in the trailers match the leak.

You need to learn to distinguish bwtwen the real stuff vs the fake crap that gets posted daily.

@MarvelZombie616 -
Adjusted for inflation the lowest grossing Avengers movie is Avengers Age of Ultron with $1.86bn. Unadjusted it was $1.405 in 2014.

I'm expecting Avengers: Doosmday to be front loaded, people curious to see it and thriving off the nostalgia and seeing it first because of the reveals/surprises/cameos. Yet they lost a lot of the audience and increasing ticket pricing can only go so far to give the illusion of the audience still being around.

I don't see re-watchability here. It's already bad enough they plan to waste 75% of the movie with exposition before having Doctor Doom be revealed as the villain, are people really going to sit through all that against just for a Sentinel Battle that's mostly been shown already and a final war that's going to look like AI Slop. Then again, people did that for Avengers: Endgame and that was shit.

My personal expectation is that Avengers: Doomsday could be the lowest, adjusted for inflation, Avengers movie - meaning it will earn below $1.86bn. I think relying heavily on the characters from the failed lead-up films is a mistake.

I do think Spider-man: Brand New Day will be the more profitable of the two easily. Though we'll have to see what happens when it comes to box office on its own.

What a pathetic looking film. Everything looks bland and actors are not together to put aome gravitas on what is happening.

It will be saddening to see this be successful because of nostalgia bait and cameos but it is what it is

I feel like Doom stealing Sue and Franklin to make them his own wife & kid in the comics makes more sense there then it does here…

In the comics , Doom has a genuine rivalry with Reed in his mind and by taking his place so to speak , it cements Victor to be superior to Richards by usurping his perfect life while here , it doesn’t seem like Victor had any malice towards Reed and both were genuine friends until the death of the former’s family so if Victor is planning to save the multiverse by creating one world & universe then I think it makes more sense he would try to resurrect his family rather then take Reeds.

Anyway , it was a strong trailer with the highlight being how RDJ is killing it and being unrecognizable as Dr Doom!!.
Timerider
Timerider - 8/15/2026, 11:14 AM
The stolen lives bit is the Avengers went back in time to change Earth’s fate of half the population being wiped out. The X-Men did the same exact thing in Days of Future Past, they were being killed by the Sentinels and sent Wolverine back in time to fix things. That leaves the Fantastic Four facing extinction from Galactus, and they were able to stop it from happening. They all have stolen lives thanks to Thanos, the Sentinels, and Galactus.

@Timerider - I guess I just don't see how the F4 compares to the other two. There were no time shenanigans or undoing of events that had already occurred with them, they simply just repelled a threat.
Timerider
Timerider - 8/15/2026, 5:18 PM
@EskimoJ - Perhaps they do something in Doomsday or he might just be talking to the X-Men and Avengers only. Maybe Franklin is the one to change things in the future, who knows.

This trailer means that leak of the sentinel battle is real. And it looks stupid and pathetic where everyone gathering together while the sentinels are waking up and serving themselves in a plate 😂😂😂😂

You will also see the recycled camera movements and blocking of the characters from Endgame.

I feel bad for those pumped up for this. Marvel is taken everyone for fools and some take the bait 😭😭😭😭😭

@vectorsigma - this will not be as successful as Spider-man because it’s depressing and the heroes lose, cool scenes, but overall, a downer, as they continue to lose against Victor Doom.

Spider-Man 4 had no leaks and from the moment that i saw the first leaked trailer i knew that it was the movie of the year. It looked great and it has great emotional character development.

Doomsday is the opposite.
Most people were negative when Downey was cast as Doom, rightly so.
The reddit script is sadly not good.
Killing Toby McGuire and Dr. Octopus and Wolverine in the opening is stupid, as is killing Steves child and giving him the blame for the incursions after he found his happy ending is cruel and dumb.
Reed and Doom not being rivals is also something i don't like.
The cinematography is really ugly and everything looks like bad ai generated it.
Nobody likes the scenes from Endgame where everybody gets to have the Infinity Gauntlet for a minute and the female A-Force feels so forced in.
While i love both the original Secret Wars and the 9 issue new one, Doomsday feels like a really bad adaptation of "Time runs out".
Hopefully Secret Wars will be a better movie.
