Following several noteworthy Avengers: Doomsday leaks—including an unfinished clash between Doctor Doom and the movie's heroes—it's hard not to wonder whether they're part of a coordinated marketing strategy to build excitement for the movie (if so, it's undoubtedly worked).
Now, though, Disney might be in serious trouble. HD versions of movies frequently leak on torrent sites either before or right as a new movie arrives in theaters. While it wasn't well-publicised, Coyote vs. ACME was available in 4K right before its opening weekend, a devastating blow to a title that was relying on people buying tickets.
Now, a "reputable P2P uploader" has claimed that they have a "2160p Screener copy of Avengers: Doomsday." The catch is that the file has no audio, but it would obviously still be catastrophic if all the movie's biggest moments suddenly started circulating on social media.
If that were to happen, then people would undoubtedly face far more dire consequences than a copyright strike on their social media account. However, the leaker has said they're going to wait for Avengers: Doomsday to hit theaters so they can distribute the movie with audio. If that happens, then it will obviously put a dent in repeat business heading into 2027.
How likely are these claims to be real? Well, Avengers: Doomsday only recently finished reshoots and is likely to be in post-production until as late as November, so we don't believe this uploader is really sitting on a fully completed copy of the movie.
On the other hand, if they have a source somewhere in distribution or a theater who has promised to provide them with a 4K copy of Avengers: Doomsday when it hits theaters on December 18, then more than CAM copies could flood torrent sites in the days that follow.
We'll have to wait and see, but Marvel Studios' security team is likely to be all over this.
