Avengers: Doomsday is nearly here, and while work continues on the Marvel Studios movie, it surely won't be long until post-production concludes and the Russo Brothers fully shift attention to next December's Avengers: Secret Wars.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, a recent test screening took place, and the movie is receiving positive reviews. The current runtime is said to be 2 hours and 50 minutes, making it a little shorter than the three-hour Avengers: Endgame.
Despite concerns from fans about Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as a different character, Doctor Doom is being hailed as one of the MCU's best villains. In fact, Victor Von Doom is said to be on par with Josh Brolin's Thanos.
Interestingly, James Marsden's Cyclops is being hailed as a standout in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor never really got his due in 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies, so this news will be welcomed by fans of Scott Summers.
Richtman concludes by saying that Avengers: Doomsday currently has only one important post-credits scene. It remains to be seen whether a second secret stinger will be added or this is it for the upcoming blockbuster. Whatever the scene reveals, it will almost certainly set up next December's Avengers: Secret Wars.
This all bodes well for the movie, especially after a Multiverse Saga that's drawn mixed reviews from many fans for inconsistent storytelling. The expectation is already that Avengers: Doomsday will break a lot of box office records over the holidays, and great reviews will help with that.
In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.
Avengers: Doomsday stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Mabel Cadena, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, India Rose Hemsworth, and Wesley Holloway all make their Avengers franchise debuts.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, along with X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, plus Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.
The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has also been enlisted to refine the story, alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18.
