Doom is coming, and Industrial Light & Magic has shared a new promo poster for December's Avengers: Doomsday featuring another look at Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom.
One of the many heroes who will be standing against the powerful villain is Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who officially took the mantle of Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier after Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) handed his friend the shield in Avengers: Endgame.
During a recent interview, Mackie revealed that he learned he was to become the new Captain America when Evans let him read his early copy of Endgame's script.
“Chris Evans is somebody who I hold near and dear,” Mackie told Cigar Aficionado. “We’re at Chris’ house, and because he’s Captain America, he gets the [script] pages first. So he’s like, ‘Yo, did you read the new scene?’ I’m like, ‘Nah, what’s up?’ So, he takes me down…and he gave me the script and let me read it. And it was really great and really emotional to learn it from a friend…I don’t know a lot of actors who would have appreciated or celebrated that moment with a fellow actor in that way because I was taking his job for all intents and purposes.”
Wilson may be the new Sentinel of Liberty, but Rogers will return in Doomsday, and there are rumors that Evans will be sticking around as Nomad post-Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were hit with significant delays last year, with Doomsday now set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars positioned for December 17, 2027.
Both movies will be directed by the Russo brothers, who also make their MCU return after helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
