Avengers Endgame: Encore: Marvel Studios Appears To Have Made Some Big Changes To The Film

Avengers Endgame: Encore opens in theaters next month, and fans have noticed at least a couple of noteworthy changes made to the movie, both in terms of the dialogue and how it looks.

Avengers Endgame: Encore tickets went on sale yesterday, and we're hearing the movie took just two hours to record the biggest pre-sales start ever for a re-release. Could the movie take back the #1 spot from Avatar at the global box office? It's certainly possible.

While time will tell on that front, eagle-eyed fans have noticed at least two big differences in the trailer that was released yesterday compared to the version of Avengers: Endgame currently available.

It seems some tweaks have been made for those Infinity Vision screens, which, as a reminder, is a new certification for Premium Large Format (PLF) theaters that "guarantees moviegoers an exceptional film presentation with big screens, bright images and outstanding sound."

The color grading is much more vibrant, but has Disney just upped the contrast a little to create the impression that Infinity Vision screens will make the movie look better? That's currently being hotly debated, but it's entirely possible that, seven years on, Marvel Studios has found a legitimate way to improve Avengers: Endgame's visuals.

A line of dialogue in yesterday's sneak peek has been altered. In what could be a small but meaningful change, Tony Stark now tells Steve Rogers, "You mess with time, time tends to mess back" instead of "You mess with time, it tends to mess back."

A big part of Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly revolve around the consequences of Steve travelling back in time to get his happy ending with Peggy Carter, so this warning now hits a little harder.

There are also unverified rumblings about Emma Fuhrmann's Cassie Lang being swapped out with Kathryn Newton, who took over the role in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

"It’s going to connect the story of the two movies," the Russo Brothers have previously said of Avengers Endgame: Encore"There’s a natural progression from 'Endgame' into 'Doomsday,' which is also inclusive of all of the other stories that have been playing out."

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the movie features an epic ensemble which includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

"Avengers: Endgame is a masterpiece which not only delivers on every expectation you had but exceeds ones you didn't even think about. This isn't just a movie, it's an experience," we wrote in our 2019 review of the movie.

Avengers Endgame: Encore arrives in theaters on September 25.

@OneMoreTime - unfortunately that’s not true, that would be 1 billion per movie average. That’s not the case. We were close to that. But after the infinity saga, there was one movie that almost made 2 billion, one that made 1.3 billion, and a few that made between 600 million and 1 billion, but too many that made below 600 million. The average went down. Observe:

* MCU through Spider-Man: Far From Home (23 movies): $22.587 billion
* Average per movie: $982.04 million
* Black Widow through The Fantastic Four: First Steps (14 movies): $9.896 billion
* Average per movie: $706.89 million
* First 37 MCU movies — worldwide total: $32.487 billion
* First 37 — average: $877.97 million
* Brand New Day + Doomsday + Secret Wars — combined total needed: $7.513 billion
* Each of those 3 — average needed: $2.504 billion
* All 40 MCU movies — target total: $40.000 billion
* All 40 — target average: $1.000 billion per movie!

Do you see? Up to an including movie 37, we are only at 32.5 billion. 7.5 to go. That puts a lot of strain on brand new day, Doomsday, and secret wars, to make up for Black widow, Eternals, etc. Like, it should not be this bad. These movies should have made 600 million minimum, and a few more should have made over 1 billion. But Covid, but a drop in quality, but this but that. So, I want to see the 40 movies average at 1 billion years. $40 billion. Can it be done? We shall see.

@OneMoreTime - Thanks to the Multiverse saga, each. of the next three movies after fantastic four baby steps (including brand new day, which is well on its way to making this happen) has to make 2.504 billion for the MCU to have $1 billion average.

@OneMoreTime - yes yes I know that, I’m a fan, I just want to see the movies average 1 billion at some point and I think that these next few movies are the chance especially when you consider this: Endgames re-release. If that makes another hundred million, that’s less that the three movies have to make. Of course, if it makes another 200 million, then it will be the first movie to cross 3 billion. I don’t care if it took a re-release to do it, as long as it happens, I’m happy. 1 billion hours, let’s go!

Marvel forces their own employees to watch their movies at least 10 times per person.

That's how they have been making money at the box office.

@TheWalkingCuban - Most Solo-Comic Movies will NEVER get close to 1 Billion at the Box Office. Ask Superman, Iron-Man, Captain America, Thor, Dr. Strange and Ant-Man it's about Building to Something Bigger.

@OneMoreTime - we’re just three movies, including the one that’s in theaters now, and a re-release, away from it. And when there were only 23 movies, the average was 982 or 984 something like that. Almost got there!

@MotherGooseUPus - chatGPT. I used to sit there and calculate all that stuff, and then I was out for a few years, just really didn’t care for a while, until brand new day. But now that I’m back, I’m different from before. And I have last time because now I work night shift, and getting off of a 12 hour Night Shift, it really is easy to just ask ChatGPT the calculations. I might’ve been the only person back in the day that was super excited when the MCU averaged 982 million per movie, I just knew the billion was coming. It did not cover it went down to like 878 million average. Which is a testament to how much no way home and Deadpool and Wolverine made, and honestly, Doctor Strange and Black Panther too, and even Thor were above the 700 million Mark, while guardians of the Galaxy three was right under. Everything else underperformed. Heck, I think if guardians would’ve come out right after far from home, it would be a different story for that movie. But instead, we got Covid. Literally. I did a few times anyway. So it is not the MCU‘s fault entirely, but I am not letting them off the hook either, and then goes towards the several movies that made me uninterested. Have I watched them? Yes. Do I care about re-watching them? Just a couple of them. One that I think deserved more but is probably debated. Is the Eternals. And one that I liked a lot, but I can see why it didn’t make much money, is the thunderbolts. The bottom line is, they brought down the bottom line. Along with the movies I did not like which I don’t need to list and the ones that I liked a little, also don’t need to list. Well, now it’s way more movies, so it’s nice having a sort of virtual assistant for my nerdiness. Well, to average 1 billion per movie with the 40th movie, then brand new day, Doomsday, and secret wars, have to make 2 1/2 billion each. Look at Spider-Man, already passed 2.3 billion. That’s insane. Avengers movies tend to make around that much. And endgame is getting a release, just imagine if infinity war were also getting a re-release, I wish it was. I would watch both of those Again in theaters for sure. Anyway, the billion dollar per movie average seems to be on the way for real this time. And right at movie number 40. Perfect. Sidenote, I’m not surprised that Marvels made less than Captain Marvel, but wow! Just wow. $1 billion less damn near. That’s impressively bad.

@OneMoreTime - holy crap, how much did it make so far?
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 8/26/2026, 6:05 PM
@OneMoreTime - well you know what that means, it means that endgame has now grossed over 2.8 billion, and the release isn’t even out yet! By the time it’s all set and done, I wonder if it can reach 2.9 billion. That’s another hundred million, and another hundred million less that the other three movies have to make for the billion dollar average. . So instead of needing 7.5 billion they will only need 7.4 billion. Of course, if we’re looking at it up-to-date, brand new day has already made 2.3 billion. So really, calling it 2.4 with the release, subtract that from 7.5, the other two movies only have to make 5.1 billion. Only is not an unreasonable word here, because we are talking about avengers, 2.5 billion is definitely happening from each of those movies.

Selfish a** Steve Rogers.

Couldn't deal with moving on and living his life, like anyone else, and decides "Hey I know, I'll go back in time and be with Peggy. Even tho this whole recent experience has shown me that it could have some huge negative repercussions on a global scale, I'm sure it will be fine."

The dude was going back to replace the infinity stones where they were taken from so it wouldn't disrupt the timeline and all that...what did he think would happen if he injected himself permanently into his old 1940s world? Not to mention that there were then two exact Steve Rogers existing at that time, with one being frozen.

@JobinJ - They can take my money. I’d love to see Endgame in a theater again, especially if they improved the color grading and added a bonus scene.

To each their own, I guess. I’ve paid to see the Lord of the Rings trilogy in theaters four separate times. Calling a movie rerelease a cash grab seems a bit ridiculous since these movies were made to make money in the first place. People paying to see it again is a testament to quality.

@SheepishOne - There's an insane amount of things wrong with this comment.

1. Endgame and the LOTR trilogy should never be compared ever again if you want to bring up "quality".
2. Something can be "quality" or enjoyable and still be a cash grab. These are mutually exclusive.
3. " Calling a movie rerelease a cash grab seems a bit ridiculous since these movies were made to make money in the first place." This is a non sequitur. Cash grab doesn't mean "studio attempting to make money". Everyone knows hollywood big budget movies are made to make money. But the PRIMARY goal of this new release is to make additional money from an already completed, sold, product while providing little to nothing new. If that isn't a cash grab, what is?
SheepishOne
SheepishOne - 8/26/2026, 3:16 PM
@FireGunn - Nothing really wrong with my comment.

I compared Endgame to LOTR in this instance because both were huge cultural movies that have been (will be) rereleased in theaters. It's apples to apples.

Are they trying to make money on it? Sure. But I'd say the bigger drive for the rerelease is to provide additional context for Doomsday being something of a direct sequel, and also reignite some MCU hype before Doomsday. It's like when LOTR was rereleased before the first Hobbit movie.

Call it a cash grab if you want. Just feels reductive. But hey, I'm gonna go see it anyway with a big ol' popcorn and coke.

This reminds me of when George Lucas rereleased the Star Wars trilogy back in the late 90s to "celebrate" the 20th anniversary of the franchise. A New Hope made something like $135 million? So with inflation that's close to 300 million today?
George was a genius at taking money from these Star Wars nerds.
But it was fun to watch in the theater. 😘

Those are the big changes? Sorry, but the color and a single word of dialogue doesn't matter. You want to make changes? How about we make the story make more sense instead of Clint and Natasha coincidentally being sent for the soul stone? How about we see Hulk's transformation and not just a "I figured out how to make it work"? How about we make it not the lamest and easiest plot line ever that Cap and Tony can realize "oh, let's NOW remember that we can go back to where we can get as many pym particles as we want"? How about Hulk actually gets a showdown with Thanos or at least does SOMETHING instead of the most physically impressive thing be throwing a bench? How about they actually defeat the Thanos that defeated them and not just some alternate timeline version? How about we make Captain Marvel's appearances matter and make sense? How about explain why Carol or Banner couldn't wield the gauntlet for the snap? I'm cool with the Iron Man sacrifice but they could have handled it.

And most importantly, I'm pretty sure that "with a snap of my fingers" is a figurative concept and not literal. Once he's got the gauntlet on with all the stones he should be able to do anything with just a thought and the "finger snap" isn't the special move he has to do to wipe out existence.

Fat Thor and the lady Avengers scene legitimately don't bother me though like it seems to twist all y'all's panties, but it would have been better if the lady Avengers scene hadn't just been Carol barreling through everyone.

Overall Endgame is a solid ending to the Infinity Saga with some really cool moments, but so much of the story just falls flat as a trade off for some admittedly stunning visuals and a Tony Stark send-off.
