Avengers: Endgame: Encore has made a major change to the epic Infinity Saga finale. The re-release adds a surprise appearance from Loki, reveals what happened to Bruce Banner after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and introduces several huge clues about Doctor Doom and the Multiverse's impending collapse.

But what do these new scenes actually mean for Avengers: Doomsday? From Steve Rogers' shocking reunion with Loki to the TVA's discovery of thousands of Incursions, we're breaking down Avengers: Endgame: Encore's ending, explaining that, the movie's post-credits scenes, and the biggest questions they leave behind.

Loki Returns

wr7nrzDrpGCEgYnw15jyAB59PtZ copy

Avengers: Endgame originally ended with the older Steve Rogers thinking back to his reunion with Peggy Carter. Now, when Steve Rogers and Peggy kiss, rather than fading to black, they're surprised to hear a knock at the door.

Steve hides around the corner while Peggy answers. The S.H.I.E.L.D. founder asks if she can help the man at the door, to which he replies, "I can help you. Both of you." It's Loki in his TVA uniform. Steve emerges from the shadows and comes face-to-face with his old foe before the screen cuts to black.

So, Captain America was remembering more than just his life with Peggy. Rumours suggest Loki will move them to a timeline where they'll be safe from the TVA—why that is remains unknown—and that Steve will eventually be drawn into Doctor Doom's mission to save the Multiverse. The big question, however, is how he later ends up in the present day as an elderly man to give Sam Wilson his shield.

This ending is certainly intriguing, and nicely sets the stage for Steve and Peggy's role in Avengers: Doomsday this December.

Bruce Banner Meets Doctor Doom

HJ5U 59WYAAKVbB

In the first post-credits scene, we learn that Bruce Banner, now grey-haired and bearded, has locked himself up in a military base two miles beneath the earth. After what happened in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he's ensured that Hulk can't get out and no one can get in. Still, he yearns for freedom and explains in a video log that he's been working on new Gamma-suppression techniques.

Before Bruce can go any further, a green glow appears, and the screen goes black. "Who are you?" Banner wonders before Doctor Doom replies, "Mr. Banner. I'm here to collect you." With that, we hear the Hulk's familiar roar, and they both vanish, leaving only a glowing green sigil on the floor behind them.

Why Doom has travelled to Earth-616 to essentially kidnap The Hulk is a mystery to us. He clearly has a use for the Green Goliath, leading us to suspect that the villain will somehow weaponise him against the Multiverse's Mightiest Heroes.

Victor Von Doom hails from Earth-828, the home of the Fantastic Four. Somehow, he's learned of The Hulk's existence, and if anyone is going to transform Bruce Banner into his evil Maestro persona, then it will surely be Doom.

Chaos In The TVA

Miss Minutes appears copy

The second stinger takes us back to the Time Variance Authority. Mobius arrives at work, and we see an "Employee Of All Time" placard on the wall featuring Loki.

Miss Minutes also provides some much-needed exposition for fans who haven't seen Loki, explaining, "There are a whole mess of universes out there. Our job is keeping them tidy and safe. So do us a favour and stay in your universe, so we don't have to hunt you down like a dog."

Casey and O.B. tell Mobius that an Incursion is taking place between Earth-10005 and Earth-1127. Earth-10005 is, of course, the X-Men Universe, and both realities are firing missiles at each other in a bid to destroy the other planet before both collide. That would explain why the X-Men's Earth appears to be in such a bad way when we return to it.

Suddenly, more Incursions begin until there are thousands taking place. With that, TVA mainstay O.B. declares, "The Multiverse is collapsing," setting the stage for the Final Incursion between Earth-616, Earth-828, and Earth-10005.

Doctor Doom Forges His Mask

HPvTtkUXcAADMWO (3)

The final stinger delivers perhaps the biggest surprise. Remember how at the end of Avengers: Endgame's credits we heard the noise of Iron Man forging his armour? Well, we now see that it was Doctor Doom forging his mask ahead of Avengers: Doomsday.

There's not much to the scene beyond a quick shot of someone we assume is Victor using a hammer to forge his mask, before lifting it from his forge. We then catch a glimpse of the masked Doom before the screen cuts to black.

While some fans believe this connects Doom to Iron Man, we're putting this down to the Russo Brothers cleverly using their tribute to Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark to tease Victor's MCU debut. The ultimate hero has fallen, but this franchise's biggest bad has arrived.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18. As for Avengers Endgame: Encore, the re-release is now playing in theaters.

So the Banner scene is obviously after Brand New Day. While it was cool, its goofy as [frick]. He tunnels down two miles into the earth because he's so dangerous, then Doom just pops in and steals him. Obvious it's because of Bruce and The Ancient One causing the blah blah blah to kill Dooms family. Still.. it's a cheap cop out. Same with Loki "showing up" at the last scene of Endgame. The TVA scene could've been from either season and nobody would know the difference, except for Ouroboros being present. This seems so lazy to me. Feige is at his limit.

@bobevanz - Nah.

Look, the Banner scene is goofy, sure, but Doom showing up and taking him isn’t necessarily a cop out. It’s setup, and we don’t have the full context yet.

The Loki scene is just an epilogue connecting the TVA back to the bigger MCU. It doesn’t need to establish a whole new storyline.

You can find them underwhelming, but calling two short bonus scenes evidence that Feige is “at his limit” feels like a massive conclusion to draw from very little.

Let’s say you’re 616 Steve Rogers and you time travel back in time to be with Peggy, and you grow old and you travel back to present day to give Sam his shield, you have lived in another branch timeline for 80-90+ years and that’s the only life you’ve ever known.

Doom essentially interferes with 616 Steve growing old right? So how is it possible for 616 Steve to show up in endgame if Doom interferes with 616 Steve growing old and getting to that point in time to give Sam his shield? By the laws of time travel, 616 Steve should have never showed up because there is only one 616 Steve and doom would have prevented him from being there if he kills him. That being said, the only other justification that 616 old Steve would still be there to give Sam his shield is the fact that 616 Steve went thru the events of doomsday and secret wars and survived which allows him to be there to give Sam his shield.

I hope im making sense. I need someone to answer this for me and don’t tell me multiverse and branch realities because I’m talking about following 616 Steve’s conscience, there should only be one 616 conscience, not 2.

PapaBear562 - 9/24/2026, 1:36 PM
@KineticAce - That would also jive with Steve telling Same, "No, no I don't think I will" when Sam asked him "you want to tell about her?"

@KineticAce -

Do you know for a fact that 616 Steve dies at the end of these two movies (...or that even if he does, he's not brought back in some "re-set" at the end of Secret Wars, that also sees him returned to the correct point in the timeline to live out his 90 years with Peggy and then return to the (un-reset) timeline at the end of Endgame to give Sam the shield?

You don't know for a fact that Doom kills him. You're just assuming that based off of rumors.
And even if it were true, you likewise don't know how the events of Secret Wars plays out to possibly or potentially undo that.
Everyone thought half the heroes were dead and gone after Infinity Wars, and we all saw how Endgame undid all that.

And you're also making an assumption about how time travel works in the MCU when they explicitly explained in Endgame that it does not work that way (the linear model. In the MCU time travel is Quantum Mechanics, branched realities/timelines model)

You're assuming a lot, which is why you are confused about how all this potentially plays out.

I will grant you that they did screw up in Endgame (their one glaring screw-up) in not showing how Steve 616 got back to the original 616 timeline as an old man, if he didn't come back through the time bridge before Thanos destroyed it or through Banner's reconstructed one.
That led people to assume (incorrectly) that he had been living in our timeline all along which is incorrect.

@KineticAce - steve can timetravel also
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 9/24/2026, 3:40 PM
@spr0cks - Well we can assume that the multiverse will be destroyed at the end of Doomsday.

So whether Steve dies or not it wouldn't make sense either way. Either he dies or he escapes to Battleworld. Either way he can't be Old Steve in the previous multiverse.

This is like a second Marty BTTF situation. I guess we'll never know. Even if The Russos have old Steve dimension jump at the end of Secret Wars and give Falcon the shield it wouldn't make sense for that to be the same multiverse that dies at the end of Doomsday. So even if they do that there's still the mystery of the original ld Steve from Endgame (who the Old Steve at the end of Secret Wars couldn't possibly be).

RitoRevolto - 9/24/2026, 5:02 PM
@KineticAce - You're thinking of a time paradox, and the MCU's time/multiverse doesn't work that way. It's already been established if something is changed in the past, it doesn't affect the future, but rather splinters off into a new timeline. Keeps the TVA nice and busy.
LoudLon
LoudLon - 9/24/2026, 7:29 PM
@KineticAce - Here's my thinking, and it'll probably make even less sense:

Doom is from Earth 828, which is where the FF come from. We know this because we see in the trailer that Reed and Sue both know him, and Sue refers to the person he was before becoming a villain.

The 828 universe, when we see it in FF:FS, appears to be in the 1960s. Which actually raises a separate question: are all the universes in the multiverse at the same point in time? Are some behind? Are some ahead? Anyway...

If 828 is set in the '60s, and Doom arrives in modern 616 which is currently set in 2028, then that would mean he's travelled some 60-ish years into his own future and arrived four years after Steve has passed the mantle to Sam (Endgame opens in 2019 then jumps ahead five years, we'll recall).

And if we hold true what Endgame said about time travel -- that travelling to the past won't change the future, because that future has become your past -- then Doom going back in time to interfere with Peggy and Steve wouldn't undo Steve's reappearance in 2024, because Doom would have originally arrived four years after that moment.

I think...?

Eh. We'll find out in December.

@KineticAce - Doom taking Steve created a branched timeline in which he still grew old and was also taken. Thats how I rationalize it anyway.

Honestly , most of these sound pretty good imo but still not worth it enough to go see a movie i have watched multiple times in theaters.

I kinda wish the Banner one was the post credits for BND but i guess they would have had to modify his fate in that film since last we hear of him in that , they say he’s on psychiatric hold in some facility so you could have then had him perhaps jump away and leave the city after he seemingly remembered Peter & realized what had happened to him which could then have led him to this abandoned military base that he’s locked himself in but oh well…

As is , it sounds like a cool sequence in which I’m glad we got an update on him before Doom shows up & it goes to shit so poor Bruce.

Also I thought the Loki we got that met Steve & Peggy was the character sometime during S1 since he’s wearing his TVA jacket but given the “Employee of All Time” thing that seems to be a commemoration for Loki post S2 , perhaps that is God of Stories Loki coming in his “civilian attire” but if so then who is holding the Multiverse together if anyone given the incursions happening & why would he then leave his post?.

Anyway , I have mixed feelings on the clang from the end of EG that people thought was an homage to Tony and him forging his armor in the first Iron Man film now being retrofitted to be Doom making his mask mainly because I don’t want any link between both characters (with the exception of RDJ playing both) like the latter being a variant or something…

Otherwise , it’s a cool touch and a clever retcon that further ties Doomsday into being a semi-sequel to Endgame while also in a meta way signaling the transition of RDJ from the MCU’s biggest hero to arguably Marvel’s biggest villain!!.

@TheVisionary25 - I'm pretty sure there's a reason the Loki visit is tacked on to the end of the film and the TVA scene is a stinger. It's because indeed the Loki visit is from "earlier" in TVA history and he moves them to the FF universe and the TVA scene is from "realtime" in Doomsday.

Rude,....

I'll have you know Mister "Dr. Doom",.... that..... DOCTOR....Banner has SEVEN PhD's.

Seven.

I would think that as a fellow member of the Doctorate Fraternity and brotherhood of collegiate knowledge and learning, you of all people would know better than to disrespect a fellow learned Doctor like that by not referring to him by his proper titles.

@Feralwookiee -
If Scar-Jo's Natasha('s Russian accent) from Iron Man 2 or Halle Berry's Storm('s African-ish accent) from X-Men 1 are any guide, we should expect him to lose it completely by the time Secret Wars gets here.

Even in Doomsday I wouldn't be surprised if it progressively gets less and less stronger as the movie goes along - right up until the end credits stinger where he just sounds like a hangover RDJ or Tony Stark.

Luckily for them, Latveria is a completely made up country and there will be no real world Latverians to critique it.

Chadwick Boseman's Wakandan accent was particularly hilarious to anyone that knows what Africans sound like, because for whatever reason they decided to model the Wakandan language after a South African language (Xhosa. Okay, probably not for "whatever reason". They did it because the actor playing his father T'Chaka is South African Xhosa and that's the language they were speaking), and so that's what he modeled his accent on.

But Wakanda itself is an East African country and East Africans sound nothing like South Africans ( in terms of their accents when speaking English).
It's even more comical when you consider that they had an actual Kenyan (Lupita N'yongo) and Ugandan (Florence Wasumba who played Ayo, one of the lead Dora Milaj) as part of the main cast that they could have used to model the accent and language on - especially seeing as Wakanda is supposed to be between Kenya and Uganda and they would sound very similar.

It was fun reliving Endgame. Don’t get hung up on the “Infinity Vision” sh!t. It’s been seven+ years since I’ve seen the OG cut on the big screen, and it looked great back then. I am admittedly more interested in the story vs the visuals for most movies though. To me, “Infinity Vision” offers no benefit to this movie unless you’re a SUPER-nerd for movie visuals.

When they cut to Loki’s scene first, If this is someone’s first time seeing Endgame, they would think that this cut is the 2019 theatrical cut. The new additions make this a perfect movie to shift right into Doomsday. With that, I also think that fans that aren’t as hardcore as us, can watch this cut, then move into Doomsday. They won’t need to bother with the entire MV Saga IF they are just basic-basic, barely scratching the surface, fans.
