It's going to be a long time before we get a glimpse of any official promotional material for Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars, but quite a few fan-made efforts have been doing the rounds online, and this poster is one of the better ones we've come across.
The image (we're not sure who the artist is, so please let us know in the comments if you do) assembles various heroes from the MCU, including Sam Wilson, aka our new Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man (well, Spider-Men) and many more. It also throws the likes of Deadpool, Wolverine, and Miles Morales into the mix along with a few characters who have either been killed off (Tony Stark) or retired (Steve Rogers).
Of course, the nature of the Multiverse means we could potentially see actors such as Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans return as Variants of their respective characters for this massive event movie. Rumors have been swirling that this is exactly what Kevin Feige and co. have in store, but with Secret Wars still years away, any tentative plans are likely subject to change.
Taking center stage on the poster is a character who has yet to make his MCU debut, the villainous Doctor Doom, and the artwork puts Oppenheimer and Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy behind the mask. The Irish actor seems to have emerged as a popular outside-the-box pick for the role since his acclaimed performance in Christopher Nolan's recent historical drama.
Doom is certain to be introduced at some point, but is not believed to be part of the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. There's been whispers that he's set to appear in the movie's post-credits scene, however.
Check out the fan-poster below, and let us know which other heroes and villains you'd like to see make their presence felt in Secret Wars.
The studio has yet to announce a director for what could well be shaping up to be the biggest MCU movie of all time, but a previous report indicated that they may have been looking at tried and tested filmmakers behind some of the most popular and successful movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to ensure the hugely ambitious project is in safe hands, including Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and Ryan Coogler (Black Panther).
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton - who is set to helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - is also said to have pitched them on him staying on to handle the follow-up, and we've heard that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness helmer Sam Raimi is a "top Choice."
The Doctor Strange sequel's writer Michael Waldron was hired to pen the script late last year, but we have no idea how much - if any - progress has been made since then, and a recent rumor indicated that he'd actually parted ways with the project.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Jeff Loveness is also said to have stepped away (or asked to step away) from The Kang Dynasty, so, if accurate, it sounds like the studio may be going back to the drawing board on both massively-scaled Avengers movies.
