RUMOR: AVENGERS 5 Closing In On A Director As Production Gears Up To Begin Sooner Than Expected

Another rumoured production update for Avengers 5 has been revealed, and it sounds like work will begin sooner than expected. We also have news on Marvel Studios' hunt for a new director. Check it out...

Avengers 5 was originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, the movie lost that shortly after Marvel Studios decided to take the focus off Kang the Conqueror (a reaction to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania's mixed reviews and Jonathan Majors' firing).

While there have been some pretty reliable Doctor Doom rumours, a new actor is expected to play a Kang Variant who serves as the Multiverse Saga's main threat. Meanwhile, Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is overhauling Avengers 5's script after Jeff Loveness first took a crack at it.

He was supposedly fired from the project shortly after the Ant-Man threequel flopped, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton left the movie to focus on Wonder Man and the Shang-Chi sequel.

Scooper @MyTimeToShineH has shared an update on Avengers 5 today, claiming that pre-production begins next month. This comes after reports cameras will start rolling in December 2024/January 2025.

The bigger news may be the fact Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is supposedly close to having a director sign on to helm the movie. Unfortunately, there's still no word on who that is, though we'd bet on an announcement hitting the trades in the coming days.

Little is known about the upcoming Avengers movies, though a recent rumour claims to reveal the identities of five characters who will be key to this adventure. Those are Captain America (Sam Wilson), Spider-Man, Moon Knight, The Hulk, and She-Hulk.

No additional context has been provided, though it's previously been reported that Spidey will lead his own team in the "grounded" movie. The MCU's Captain America should absolutely be front and centre, while it's about time we catch up with Moon Knight again after that big Jake Lockley cliffhanger.

How can this movie address that and Moony's place in the wider MCU? That remains to be seen.

As for The Hulk and his cousin She-Hulk, not one but two powerhouse superheroes will be crucial when it comes to turning the tide in what could be another Multiversal War. We're not expecting another season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, so Jennifer Walters making the transition into the Avengers franchise is a logical next step.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars set to follow on May 7, 2027. As always, stay tuned for updates as we have them!
