AVENGERS 5 Plans Teased By Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige: "You Need Time To Build [A] Saga"

Avengers: Endgame was released in 2019, and we've heard nothing about plans for a fifth instalment. Now, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has shared an update on that as we head further into Phase 4.

The last time we saw Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble on the big screen, they had come together to battle Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. The movie was a massive box office hit, grossing over $2 billion globally (becoming the highest-earning title of all-time before Avatar was re-released).

Surprisingly, Marvel Studios has yet to announce any plans for an Avengers 5, leaving fans to wonder what form that's ultimately going to take.

During a recent interview with Collider to discuss Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' release, Kevin Feige shared some insight into what's led to the apparent delay. "I think we want there to be a reasonable amount of time from the Endgame to start a new saga," he explained, "which is already underway and already started."

"And then you need time, as you did in Phase 1, to build that saga before you start bringing everyone together," Feige concluded, making it clear that the plan right now is to focus on building up this post-Infinity Saga era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That means introducing new heroes - like Ms. Marvel, the Eternals, and Shang-Chi - while laying the groundwork for the next big bad (more than likely Kang the Conqueror). Needless to say, we can't wait to see what form Avengers 5 takes, especially with hints that teams like the Dark Avengers and Young Avengers could be on their way to this shared world.

What threat to you think Earth's Mightiest Heroes should assemble to take on next?

I can wait another 5 years or more for an Avengers movie, just in time for secret wars hehe

@bobevanz -
If I had to guess:

Disney+ 'Secret Invasion' ties into and sets-up The Marvels which explore the cosmic ramifications of Secret Invasion occurring and the start of the new Kree-Skrull War led by Veranke (The young Skrull girl from Captain Marvel)

Captain America 4 will adapt Secret War, a storyline focusing around a group of heroes fighting against a group of villains given upgrades from a mysterious benefactor - in this case the group of villains being recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

Avengers 4 will be Secret Wars and deal with a cosmic force pitting a bunch of heroes and villains against each other. Primarily the draw of this film would be the Avengers Vs The Fantastic Four.

Captain America 5 would be an adaptation of Civil War 2 using the mutant situation as its basis.

@Scarilian - I don't think they would be doing the 80's Secret Wars, it's plot it's very toy comercial, if anything they aré doing Hickman's

@Scarilian - I do hope Secret Invasion ties into The Marvels. But since that's mostly cosmic based, I do hope we're getting a Dark Reign (ans Siege after that) show that focuses on the fallout on Earth.

@Moriakum - Exactly. Its really what doomed the DCEU. Really wanted it to work so we had BOTH sides kicking butt. Alas, in the end it was rushed and now nothing makes sense.

@dragon316 - "and give trust in directors what there doing give less power to studios in making movie"

That's completely opposite of what they should do, WB gave Snyder all their trust and creative freedom and he [frick]ed it up. Meanwhile Marvel has a strict plan with guidelines from Feige that he gives directors freedom...to a point.

Pretty sure Marvel did it right!

@dragon316 - 100% agree. Introducing Batman/WW in a team up was also an awful idea.

@Moriakum - As a bigger fan of DC characters, I’m so disappointed that we didn’t go the “Marvel” route 😩

@Cbmfilmjunkie - DC going the opposite direction was a better plan than just copying Marvel.
Where the screwed up ?!
Panicking after BvS.
They should have left JL and SS alone and then retooled or whatever after that.

Cbmfilmjunkie - 8/20/2021, 5:39 PM
@madhombre - It really wasn’t though.

They screwed up by not having a proper Batman intro film before shoehorning him and WW into a not sequel/sequel of Man of Steel.
Should have been proper introductions to the trinity, Flash and Aquaman before even thinking about JL (which ZS should have stayed far away from).

@Cbmfilmjunkie - I disagree.
We had all we needed to know about older, angrier Batman in the DCEU and WW’s intro was great.
If anything only the first hour of BvS is a bit wobbly, but after that it’s great.

Thoughtful, measured responses like that are a painful reminder of how to do it right while the other guys across town keep dropping the ball when it comes to adapting my favorite comic characters growing up.

I think with Kang, Secret Wars, Doom and Galactus they have enough stuff to fill way more than one saga. Don't think I have the patience though

@bkmeijer - You waited 11 years from Iron Man to Endgame. Unless you have plans to die in the next 10-15 years, time will pass anyway and you'll get to see all this.

bkmeijer2 - 8/20/2021, 6:15 AM
@FortWaba - thats true. But with Iron Man in 2008 I couldn't fathom what else Marvel had in store for is. Now I have certain expectations

Does anyone else wonder how such disparate characters are going to mesh as a group. For the first iteration, it seemed natural, but for this one, I’m not so sure. The whole “building a saga before bringing everyone together” is key. I’m more familiar with the classic Avengers lineup(s), and these days it seems like everyone is on the team, so I suppose it can work.
PicolasCage
PicolasCage - 8/20/2021, 5:41 AM
@WeaponXCII - to me the answer is that there won't be a single Avengers teams focusing on a single threat like we had in the Infinity Saga.

We'll have multiple different teams operating mostly independently and handling different types of threats.

For example, the Midnight Sons will focus on supernatural threats like Mephisto, rather than being wrapped up in all the Kang stuff
