AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Directors Call Ebony Maw Thanos' "Hype Man" & Briefly Comment On Peter Dinklage's Role
The Russo brothers have revealed a bit about Thanos himself, but little is known about the villain's children. Now, the film's directors have revealed new details on Ebony Maw. Hit the jump for more info.
We’re quickly approaching the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, and as we near the release date more info on the film will continue to come out. Already, we’ve learned a fair amount about the film’s villain Thanos, including some details on the character’s backstory.
Despite this information, there is still little known about the Mad Titan’s Black Order, which is made up of Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw. Even a few of the actors portraying Thanos’ children are still unknown.
However, we do know that Tom Vaughan-Lawlor will be portraying Ebony Maw, and now the Russo brothers have revealed some new details on the actor’s role and the casting process behind the Black Order.
"We really were looking for actors to embody these characters, the children of Thanos, called the Black Order," Joe Russo explained. “This character Ebony Maw, in particular, is like Thanos' herald. He's a little bit of his hype man. And Thanos is sort of a culty character. Ebony Maw, the character who Tom plays, is the one who builds up the cult. And the character needed a sense of humor and to be a bit wry, and he's stealing all of his scenes.”
This role sounds very much in line with the character's comic book counterpart, who was less of a physical threat than his fellow Black Order member, but was an extremely skilled manipulator.
Aside from the discussion on Ebony Maw, the directing duo also VERY briefly commented on Peter Dinklage’s (Game of Thrones) mysterious role, saying that audiences will be able to recognize the actor, though it may “take a beat or two." Anthony Russo then capped off this comment by stating "that's all we can say," likely keeping an eye out for those (in)famous Marvel snipers. However, though this isn't exactly a spoiler-y comment from the directors, this bit of information seems to suggest that Dinklage won't be portraying a CGI character. So that should help fans still speculating on the actor's role narrow down the list of characters he may be portraying.
