Way back in November we all got our first look at
Avengers: Infinity War with the arrival of its first trailer. One of the most intriguing moments from that trailer was seeing Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, as himself rather than plastered with purple body-paint.
CinemaBlend recently sat down with Bettany and his co-star Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch, and discussed the upcoming film.
On the topic of Vision's new-found ability to alter his form entirely, CinemaBlend queried the mechanics. Bettany detailed how Vision's new ability works:
Well, you either travel to different Mardi Gras around the world. Or Halloween, you're golden -- Halloween, it's his night out. Or you discover the ability to change your appearance with nano-technology.
To clarify, according to Nano.gov, nanotechnology involves "the ability to see and to control individual atoms and molecules.
CinemaBlend went onto discuss the relationship between Vision and Scarlet Witch with Bettany and his on-screen partner, Elizabeth Olsen. The actors confirmed that the Mind Stone, which is embedded within Vision's forehead, puts the character at risk of Thanos and his Black Order. In the same trailer mentioned above, we see a shot of the Black Order trying to pry the Stone from Vision's head.
Olsen and Bettany explain how the imminent danger and Vision's desire to become more human affects their characters' relationship:
Olsen: This is definitely the most emotional arc I've done in an Avengers film, that's for sure. Because when we're talking about Vision becoming human, we're talking about their relationship, and it's a pretty grounded arc.
Bettany: And significant. [Laughs] Yeah, I think it is the most emotional. Also, the cost and the danger that we're all facing becomes more important than certain beef that people had in the past, because it's so desperate. The point of the Avengers, and by extension mankind, it's fraught with danger. So I think old grudges [from Civil War] are buried and put off until next time.
What do you think about Vision's new ability and his uncertain fate? What's your opinion on the characters' relationship thus far?
